In Mali, a five-year-old albino girl was kidnapped from her mother and beheaded in order to use her head to make amulets. This was reported by the Daily Mail.
The incident took place in the village of Fana, 125 kilometers from the capital of Mali, Bamako. Armed men broke into the house where a mother was sleeping with her two daughters. The woman first rushed in pursuit of the kidnappers, but then returned home to protect her second child, also an albino.
“We looked for her everywhere and found her behind the mosque. She had no head,”said village teacher Oumar Diakite.
Furious local residents burned down the military police station for failing to ensure the safety of the child. “We demand justice. They took her head. This is a ritual crime,”said Mamadou Sissoko, secretary general of the Federation of Associations of People with Albinism in West Africa. He believes that the surge in such crimes is associated with the elections to be held in the republic on July 29.
