An unusual natural phenomenon was observed in the north of the city.
These strange photos first appeared in the group "Traffic Accidents and Emergencies of St. Petersburg" at about 7 am on February 24th. The author of the photographs suggested that we are talking about the Northern Lights.
- On Prosvet (Prosveshcheniya Avenue - Ed.) Something like the Northern Lights, vertical stripes of different colors go to heaven, - wrote Ekaterina Smirnova from St. Petersburg.
However, other townspeople corrected her - this is still not the Shining, but the so-called light columns.
- It happens in the cold. Even the halo at such a time slips when there are three or four suns in the firmament, - wrote Yegor Isaev.
Promotional video:
“This phenomenon is called“light forest”or“light pillars”, when in frost the light is not scattered over the area, but spreads vertically down and up in the form of a column of light,” added Alexander Rendakov.
According to "KP", the natural phenomenon was observed only by residents of the north of St. Petersburg. Well, lucky.
There was also a place for jokes. Someone suggested that aliens attacked the northern capital. Others laughed: this is all the light from the lanterns.
As a reminder, in 2015, St. Petersburgers witnessed the real Northern Lights. And not so long ago, the so-called Halo was observed in the sky - because of the optical effect, the sun seemed to "split".
