Devils are everywhere
Our ancestors sacredly believed in the existence of evil spirits. Which included demons, demons and ghouls. At the bottom of a river or lake, in their opinion, a water one could start and begin to play pranks, and a brownie could settle in people's dwellings, establishing its own order. In our time, all these mysterious creatures have acquired a slightly different guise in the human mind, being endowed with the generalized name "essence". According to experts, these are clots of energy with personality, emotions and strength, often hostile and embittered towards people. They, as a rule, do not clearly show their presence, but, being invisible, they affect our lives, often with the aim of harming, depriving the peace of mind, health or even the life of their victims.
Astral entities: larvae - evil spirits of the dead or succubus - demons of debauchery and lust, are known from ancient beliefs. Modern psychics claim that they are able to draw energy from the biofield of a sleeping person, thereby gaining strength and using it in their dark interests.
And today there are people who claim that in one form or another they come into contact with intelligent entities from the spiritual invisible world. There is a lot of talk about this on television, on the Internet, and there are enough publications in the press. Moreover, in some cases, the imaginary presence of spirits becomes very noticeable. Someone calls them poltergeists and reels, some consider them angels, cosmic intelligence or aliens. Sometimes it is so serious that it takes the form of a phenomenon called senestopathy by doctors, that is, it manifests itself in sensual and tactile hallucinations. The facts of physical relations with representatives of the spiritual world are also known.
Tricks of the dark entities
Anna Marinina, a pensioner from Tobolsk, a woman with a higher education, sharing her experiences, wrote a letter to the editorial office of one of the Orthodox magazines, where she seriously complains that she is being haunted by the spirits of the dead. The first time this happened was when she came to visit the grave of her deceased mother. Now there are so many restless souls that they are constantly in her apartment, where she lives alone after the death of her husband. Usually there are up to several of them. And going out into the street, according to Anna, she "brings with her a couple of ghosts who followed her."
These entities have become so accustomed to her house that they feel like masters and constantly do all sorts of, completely unpleasant, dirty tricks to her: they steal keys, spoil soup, tear boots and bags. In an effort to get rid of annoying obsessions, the pensioner tried to go to church. But her spirits are not afraid of prayers, and in the church they spit in the eyes, extinguish candles and knock out cans of holy water from their hands. The woman complains that "she feels her uninvited guests quite clearly, hears their voices, and often even feels their disgusting smell."

Seeking help from psychics, clairvoyants, healers, sorcerers and representatives of a wide variety of religious concessions gave absolutely no result.
Of course, explaining what is happening, one can attribute such stories and statements to the manifestations of mental illness of a lonely, elderly, experienced woman (although doctors do not find her sick), but the facts suggest otherwise. The point is that there are other witnesses to the "pranks" of the spirits.
Demons burning with gaze
One of the most interesting characters in Slavic and other mythologies, mentioned in many chapters of the Bible, is the basilisk. This is a demonic creature. Usually the ancients represented him in the form of a snake, bat or toad. Some nationalities believed that such evil spirits were shown to the eyes of people in the guise of lizards and other living creatures. Or they are born from eggs that a rooster can lay once in a hundred years, and so on. The deadly gaze of the insidious basilisk posed a tremendous danger to humans, from which not only living creatures perished, but crops and grass dried up.
Unlike ethereal entities in the previous case, called "demons of lower levels" by psychics, this creature is more powerful, of a higher level and possessing sufficient strength. And having met with him, you can not get rid of small dirty tricks. This is what our ancestors said.
Of course, to a modern person, all this seems to be only fairy tales, and stories about meetings with such creatures are undoubted fiction. But perhaps the inhabitants of past centuries did not think so? But there is nothing to prove it is impossible, since all the victims and witnesses died many centuries ago. However, how can one contradict what happened not so long ago, and the police protocols and other documents confirm the reality of the events? But such cases, in fact, took place, which will be discussed below.
Basilisk's Lair
In the vicinity of the village of Mednikovo, located at the junction of two Volga regions, there was a strange place for a long time, nicknamed in grandmother's tales "the basilisk's den". Amazing, frightening and contradictory rumors circulated about him among the people. Not really anyone believed in these horror stories, but nevertheless they tried to bypass the mentioned unpleasant area. And even scientists recognized it as a zone of anomalies.
In November 1998, just here, an amazing incident took place, for which there is still no reasonable explanation. Shepherd Terentyev, together with his assistant Sheluchenko, overtaking the herd, decided to sit down to rest and, as luck would have it, in the very epicenter of the "basilisk's lair". His comrade, having walked away for a short time in the bushes and returned just a few minutes later, found Terentyev's hopelessly charred body, which remained sitting on an armful of straw, where he had perched a little earlier.
That it was he, there could be no doubt, since he could see his clothes, which had not suffered at all during the tragic incident, but only thoroughly soaked in the rain. The weather that day was really autumnal, damp, and there were no signs of fire anywhere nearby …
Spontaneous thermonuclear reaction?
The investigation into the death of Terentyev, of course, was launched immediately, the case was opened, but the investigation soon reached a dead end. And during the autopsy of the unfortunate, oddities were found that only confused all the investigators. It turns out that the fire did not happen outside, but from inside the victim. All his organs were burned to the ground, and the outer tissues and skin were only charred due to the fatal and incomprehensible internal fire.
It was not like suicide. And who would think of settling accounts with life in such a strange way? There were no objects with the help of which it was possible to reproduce fire, as well as substances capable of becoming a catalyst for ignition. Only in Terentyev's pockets was a box of matches soaked through and through, and the straw where he was sitting remained completely untouched by the fire.
In the course of the investigation, an assistant was accused of murder, but the case was soon closed for insolvency, since the employees of the authorities failed to logically explain: how and so accurately can one set fire to a person from inside?
Journalists and scientists came to the scene. The latter put forward their hypothesis about what happened that supposedly hydrogen in the body of the unfortunate as a result of interaction with energy unknown to science, provoked the course of a "cold" thermonuclear reaction that occurred literally in an instant. But the version remained incomplete and not substantiated by facts. In the meantime, they were judging and rowing, soon two more people were burned to death near the site of the tragedy.
Over time, the passions subsided, but to this day a variety of conflicting rumors circulate in the village. The old-timers could not find a logical explanation for the wise everyday experience. And history has remained shrouded in a mysterious fog. And only the village old women secretly gossip about the fact that it is not for nothing that the place was nicknamed "the basilisk's lair". By the way, locals are now trying even more carefully to bypass the fatal site …
