Today henbane oil is used as a pain reliever for rheumatic and neuralgic pains. The leaves are part of complex preparations used in the treatment of asthma. At the same time, henbane is an extremely poisonous plant, and therefore it is not surprising that it is among the herbs shrouded in numerous beliefs and myths.
STOPPER CENTRAL LIFT FOR YOUR FAVORITE
The poisonous essence of henbane is emphasized by its popular names: grass-bleak, dope-grass, stupor, hibernation, maddened, foolish, mad grass. For a long time, this plant symbolized mental insanity. From there, the proverb "Belens overeat" that has come down to our days.
In Old Russian mythology, henbane is a plant of Yarila, the god of the violent, spring, male fertilizing forces of nature. At the same time, in our legends, there was the spirit of Nelyub, appearing before people in the form of a black evil cat with a henbane branch in a predatory mouth. The poisonous plant here acted as a symbol of insanity and discord.
Helen was used in more or less innocent forms of love magic, especially aimed at charming women with men.
In particular, in order to attract love to himself, a man, having gone out into the field early in the morning and completely undressed, had to, standing on one leg and constantly repeating the name of his beloved, manage to collect several plants and then, remaining naked, jump all the same on one foot to your house.
Knowledgeable people claimed that this is a 100% remedy for a love spell for a loved one.

To make it rain, the henbane was burned for a long time in the field or thrown into the water. The same operation contributed to the success in fishing. Helen attracted fish and made them tame.
Eating any part of the henbane, especially the root, is very dangerous for both humans and animals. This is followed by a complete loss of orientation, strong mental and motor agitation, convulsions with subsequent loss of consciousness, the development of coma, weakening of the pulse, shortness of breath, a drop in blood pressure. With paralysis of the respiratory system, death occurs.
Moreover, the poisonous properties of the plant are preserved when dried, as well as in boiled and baked form. Particularly dangerous are small seeds, which in appearance practically do not differ from poppy seeds and therefore often seduce children who are not familiar with botany.
THE DEVIL'S FAVORITE PLANT
In the Middle Ages, henbane seeds were widely used in Germany by brewers to enhance the intoxicating effect of drinks. But the cases of beer poisoning were so numerous that the government finally issued a special decree prohibiting the addition of dangerous ingredients to the intoxicated drink.
The ancient Roman writer Elian reported: “Wild pigs, having accidentally eaten henbane, go to the water and hunt crayfish, which they greedily devour. Cancers serve as a cure for this ailment and cure it."
In folk medicine, henbane was often used as a pseudo-treatment for toothache: they put the seeds of the plant on a hot frying pan and bent over them so that the smoke entered the mouth. And then, they say, the worms from the rotten tooth choked and fell dead into the pan.
It was believed that if the henbane juice was poured into a silver bowl, it would immediately break into pieces. And if the dried and powdered henbane is mixed with the blood of a young hare and put somewhere in an open place near the forest, then "oblique" from all the surroundings will gather to this place and will stay there until the bait is removed or until all runaway hares will not be overfished.
In ancient times, henbane served as an important means to achieve a state of trance, and was also used by oracles and soothsayers. It was believed that she promotes clairvoyance, and if she is burned on fire, then her vapors help sorcerers summon spirits.
The French occultist Paul Sedir argued that among all the plants that the devil uses to pervert the feelings of his slaves, henbane takes the first place, because it allows you to see hellish shadows and evil spirits.
In ancient Germany, the ancient balts considered henbane as a means of raising morale. Its seeds, when fumigated, gave off an odor that, when inhaled, caused anger.
The Balts even had a special group of warriors who went into battle after drinking henbane and imagining themselves as wolves. According to legend, they were so ferocious that they did not need weapons and killed enemies with their bare hands.
LEVITATION AND WAVELING IN ONE BOTTLE
Witches are known to be able to fly through the sky. To do this, they use witchcraft flying ointment, which consists of the flesh of murdered babies, mixed with poppy seeds, hemlock and, of course, bleached. With this brew, witches rub their naked body and what they are going to fly on: a pitchfork, a stick or a broomstick.
With the help of another ointment, which also includes henbane, you can become a werewolf. In the past (and maybe today) it was done this way. We went on a full moon to the forest or to the top of a hill and drew two large circles there (outer and inner).
In the center of the circle it is necessary to make a fire, on which to install the boiler. Then you should brew a potion from henbane and hemlock and read a special spell dedicated to the devil.
The ointment is rubbed into the body, they put on a wolfskin belt, kneel down and wait. After that, the devil himself or one of his henchmen appears to grant the apostate a statue of a wolf-man. Usually, in order to re-assume after this his human form, it was enough to throw off the wolf's belt and wash off the ointment.
In Italian medieval books, the recipe of the daughter of Helios and Persea, the sorceress Circe, which she used to turn people into pigs, is preserved. Belena, mandrake, belladonna, human urine, and pork blood were mixed and cooked over low heat for at least three hours to dissolve the herbs and roots.
Then the resulting solution was filtered and stored in a sealed jug. After taking three cups of this potion (with the proper spells), a person after a short time turned into a pig.
By the way, a mixture of henbane, mandrake and belladonna was also used by magicians in resurrection rituals.
If henbane seeds were suddenly found on the threshold of the house or under the path, this means that with black grains an unfriendly person showed the way to the demons. One has only to touch such seeds with your hand, and damage will penetrate your body!
Healers advise to gently scoop the seeds away from themselves and take them out into the street. Light a fire only from thin branches and draw a circle around the fire with one of them with the words: "In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." Then throw this branch into the fire. Tie a cross from the other two branches using a thread. Cross the fire three times, throw henbane seeds into the fire from the scoop with the words: "In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, go, demons, into eternal hell."
After that, you should cross a cross made of branches with the words: "In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit", throw it into the fire, cross yourself three times and leave without looking back.
