In the midst of World War II, the mysterious two-masted schooner passed the Central Atlantic, periodically changing the flags of neutral countries. Then, under cover of night, she approached the Mexican coast and landed a two-man assault on an inflatable boat. When the boat safely reached the shore, the schooner went into neutral waters and returned after the agreed time, taking a mysterious landing at a designated place. And a little later it turned out that a crystal skull, made, according to some sources, in the Mayan era, had disappeared from the storerooms of the museum of the city of Veracruz. Since nothing more valuable was lost, this story did not gain wide publicity then.

The history of the famous crystal skull found on the Yucatan Peninsula is interesting. In the 60s of the last century, this skull was examined in detail by the art critic F. Dorland. There is evidence that this study was directly related to information from the archives of the Himmler Institute "Ahnenerbe", captured by the Americans at the end of the war.
The results impressed Dorland so much that he consulted with Hewlett-Packard. In any case, he had serious doubts about the date of its manufacture by the ancient Maya.
HP employees found that the skull weighing about 5 kilograms was made from one quartz crystal, which, in principle, seemed impossible due to different internal stresses along different crystal axes. The crystal inevitably had to collapse during processing, for example, with a diamond cutter. The only way to make it is grinding with hard abrasives.
One of the HP experts in an interview expressed his attitude to the skull like this: "Given the very careful manufacturing of optical elements, I see no reason why a civilization capable of making them did not invent a microscope and a telescope."
The strange find allowed the American archaeologist Mitchell-Hedges, not very well known in scientific circles, to arrange a grand PR for himself. Even then, a number of experts expressed doubts about its origin. Articles appeared where the version was put forward that Hedges simply bought it in a junk shop and slipped it to his daughter at the excavation. In response, Hedges sought out ancient documents that claimed that the skull played an important role in the secret Maya religious rites, in particular, with its help they could eliminate their enemies at a distance. In various sources it was called either the "Skull of Death" or "the Skull of Destiny".
His colleague, the English archaeologist M. Ballard, wrote to Hedges in his publication that as early as 1896, two crystal skulls were found in Mexico, one of which, Skull ET, is now in the British Museum. And these skulls are quite consistent with the Mayan culture, they do not have a movable lower jaw and optical filling - this was a clear hint that Hedges's skull was a remake. Geologists also expressed their skepticism about such finds - in Mexico, where there are no deposits of rock crystal.

Be that as it may, the controversy surrounding the find has penetrated into the wide press. Someone Richard Garvin wrote a whole book about the "Skull of Death" on allegedly conducted by him personally research. It turned out that a luminous aura can be observed around the skull in the dark. The skull is capable of making various sounds - for example, religious choir singing or the ringing of bells. A strange pleasant aroma spreads around him, and people nearby fall into a hypnotic state.
In the collection "Great Secrets, Riddles, Sensations" its compiler V. Vedeneev imprudently spoke about Garvin's book with one phrase: "Such statements of Garvin turned out to be sheer delusion, calculated for gullible ordinary people who are greedy for any sensations." The categorical nature of this statement can be explained quite simply: Bedeneev does not mention in his article the research of Dorland and the specialists of the HP firm. And they just confirm most of this "nonsense".
In particular, Dorland himself writes: “In it you can see any objects of reality: the faces of people, mountains, animals and the fruits of your own imagination in the iridescent play of foggy spots. I myself have observed the effects this crystal skull has on impressionable people. Some have an increased heart rate, others are thirsty or have various odors, and some fall asleep. The priests who skillfully used these effects could be regarded as truly omnipotent."
After Ballard's article, journalists came to the British Museum to take a look at the "Skull ET" and returned with a new sensation: this skull is a slightly different type, it is made of smoky quartz and has no moving lower jaw. But the main thing: his jaws and eye sockets have a different, inhuman shape.
So a new sensation was born: this skull was made in Atlantis, he and other skulls came to the American continent along with the Atlanteans who escaped death. Along the way, it turned out that another skull - "Mach" from pure quartz is located in Guatemala.
There were 12 such skulls in total, according to the number of high priests of Atlantis, and they were used for communication between them. So far, there are only six such skulls found in the Americas. There is another skull made from solid amethyst, but it is in Japan.
