On August 28, the Amga nature protection inspectorate received information that unknown insects were found on the territory of the Altan nasleg.

The Amga Nature Conservation Inspectorate, together with the Rospotrebnadzor Administration for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), decided to send insect samples for research to the Institute of Biological Problems of Cryolithozone of the SB RAS in Yakutsk.

As confirmed by this Institute, these are rowing bugs from the family corixidae. According to entomologists, earlier in the Amginsky ulus and Central Yakutia there were cases of "coryxid rains".

“In 1917-20. there have been cases when many coryxid bugs at night flew into the light of the lamps and fell to the ground in the form of rain. This rare case was repeated at the end of the summer of 1994 in the village. Amga. Around the same time, people saw millions of myriads of corixids 6 km from the village. Now, at this time, they have a migration season,”the scientists said.

Rows (lat. Corixidae) are a family of insects from the order of Hemiptera. The family contains about 550 species. Small and medium-sized bugs; in length reach from 1.5 to 15 mm. Bedbugs are both herbivorous and predators.
