For a certain amount of time I have been working as a resuscitator-anesthesiologist. Like many colleagues, I consider myself an inveterate pragmatist and atheist. More than once I saw a human body, so to speak, in a section, and I can assure you: there is no smell of any soul there. Moreover, I will say that in a recently deceased person there is most of the substance that is not customary to talk about in a decent society. But this is all lyrics. More to the point: patients often share with me stories about the journeys of the soul, about how they saw themselves from the outside while they were in a coma. Personally, I tend to think that all these are hallucinations caused by a lack of oxygen in the brain. But some friends prefer to believe in the existence of the afterlife, and they persuaded me to tell a few stories here. Well, if you're wondering, here are a couple of stories.
So, a young girl, 19 years old, was admitted with a stab and cut wound in the stomach, a big loss of blood. Cardiac arrest - one minute. Pumped out, regained consciousness in a day. She recalls: “I rode all the time on trampolines, up and down, up and down. Everything was so bright, rosy, it was so good. I didn't want to go back at all, it hurts and scares."
The man, 25 years old, was brought in after a car accident. Multiple fractures, burns, was put into a drug-induced coma. Already in the ward he said: “At the head of the bed all the time there were grandparents. My grandfather constantly dragged me by the hand, called me with him. And my grandmother grumbled at him that I was early with them, that I still had to live. Then she dissuaded me, they left, and I woke up."
A man, 40 years old, stab and cut wound, claims to have seen himself from the side during the operation. Of course, it is curious that he even described our operating room in detail, although they brought him there unconscious: “I am floating under the ceiling and with horror I understand that I have to go back, but I cannot. I am flying somewhere towards the white light. Then I hear such a stern voice: “Why did you come here, it’s too early for you!”. And I was dragged back, then darkness, and I woke up."
