For many years, 63-year-old Kevin Daly from New Jersey thought that his big belly was a typical "beer belly", but when he lost 34 pounds (15 kg), and his bulky belly did not disappear anywhere, the man suspected that something was wrong …

Kevin got scared that something was wrong with him and in December 2017 convinced his doctor to send him for a tomography. Tomography showed the presence of a large tumor in Kevin's abdomen, larger than a soccer ball. Kevin was diagnosed with liposarcoma. It is a cancerous tumor that develops and grows in the fat cells of soft tissues.

This tumor is very difficult to diagnose, as under a microscope its cells look like adipose tissue cells and hardly differ from them. If Kevin had hesitated a little longer and hadn't gone to the doctor, the tumor would have killed him soon.

Kevin began losing weight after heart surgery in 2015. It seemed logical that his "beer belly" would become smaller, but he has not gone anywhere. Kevin and his wife began to make various assumptions, one of which was that during the operation, the surgeons left some of the napkins or instruments inside Kevin.

However, this was only a version and in order to find out for sure, it was necessary to undergo a tomography, which turned out to be not such an easy matter. The doctor initially refused to carry out this procedure, as it was not covered by health insurance.

The tomography showed that Kevin's fears about the instruments were in vain, but a much more terrible thing was discovered there - a huge tumor was growing around one of his kidneys. It was the largest that the doctors of this hospital saw.

“It's one thing to see it in a picture, but it's quite another to hold it in your hands,” surgeon Julio Teixeira commented on the results of the operation.

According to doctors, in order to grow so large (the tumor weighed over 12 kg), the tumor had to grow for at least 10-15 years. But now Kevin is over it. He went on the mend and his stomach is now in normal shape, and all the insides displaced by the tumor have returned to their places.
