The 35-year-old Delhi resident was worried about the sharp increase in her weight and decided to undergo a series of medical tests. Examination revealed that she had a huge tumor growing from a kidney. The formation blocked the normal functioning of the organ and could lead to kidney failure. The Daily Mail reports.
At first, the surgeons feared that when the tumor was removed, they would have to remove the kidney itself, but then they decided that the lower part of the organ could be preserved. The operation lasted 6 hours, during which a detected tumor and three more (!) Tumors that could grow in the future were removed.
- Because of its location, the tumor posed a threat to the patient's life, - said the doctor Hardev Singh Bhatil, - Even a small trauma to the abdomen could cause severe bleeding and could be fatal for a woman.
The patient noticed a dramatic increase in her weight over several months. She was sure that she had some kind of stomach problems. When she went to a local clinic and underwent examinations, including an ultrasound scan, she was diagnosed with the so-called Kidney Angiomyolipoma.
It is a benign tumor that consists of adipose and muscle tissue, transformed vessels and epithelial cells. Most often it is very small. With an increased size of angiomyolipoma, surgical intervention is already required.
When examining an excised tumor, which weighed 15 pounds (almost 7 kg), surgeons found that it had been growing in a woman's body for at least two years. The operation was performed last month, now the patient's condition has returned to normal and the doctors are happy with the result.
