Kizhi Island is a tourist center and a unique museum of peasant culture and wooden architecture of the Russian North, a small island in the White Sea (Karelia). According to N. N. Sochevanova is a geoactive sacred place, the properties of which were felt in the past centuries by the clergy choosing a place to build a temple complex.

Repeatedly above the Kizhi, strange luminous objects were noticed in the sky. So, for example, in mid-September 1974, the guide Elena Ivanovna Bjorninei at 4 am went to the window in the room of the administrative building of the Kizhi museum, on the second floor, next to the museum director's office, and …

“I saw a luminous ball flying from our side to the opposite bank. It looked like the moon, but it was slightly larger in size. He moved slowly, even somehow solemnly. Bright area and sky illumination. Beams of different brightness and length were radiating from the sphere.

The sky was somehow very disturbing. The ball moved slowly westward. By the way, he moved just below the moon, which was clearly visible. Usually at this time I was used to seeing a lunar path on the water - and now I noticed that the ball was moving exactly along this line, where the lunar path used to pass. But now she was not visible, as the light from the ball overshadowed everything.

The disc glowed like a daylight advertisement in a city. A little later, a crown began from the edge of the disk, which I will call the inner one, since there was also an outer one. It was a frequent emission, starting after a small gap from the disk. The beams diverged in all directions, but to the left and to the right they were slightly longer than up and down.

The inner crown pulsed as if it were fighting something, pushing off something, colliding with something, or something. It was as if a blacksmith was hitting an anvil, and sparks flew in all directions, but only much stronger.

Another impression is that this ball gave the sky "acceleration" for something very important. Long rays emanated from the inner crown, which ended in a thick, but not wide, outer crown. The ripple started from the center and went to the edges. With strong flashes to the left of the sphere, something red was shining, not the fire itself, but, as it were, a reflection from it.

The main color of the ball was very similar to the moon. I don't remember if the sky was clear and cloudless, but that it was high and dark, I remember. The movement speed was low. Height above the horizon is approximately 45 degrees.

The duration of the entire phenomenon was at least 20 minutes, as it seems to me now. The sphere gradually went beyond the forest, even beyond the forest, and the light from it remained in the sky for a long time. When he flew towards the horizon, the straits between the islands were clearly visible - usually you will not see these straits. Reddish reflections and reflections were noticeable on the water.

What did I think? There were a lot of thoughts. This is not a star, not a meteorite, it is not clear what. There was a feeling that "this" brings order to the sky, gives him a kind of "acceleration" …"

The phenomenon was observed here in the evening of December 28, 1978. Yuri Mikhailovich Naumov, a researcher at the Kizhi island-museum, was in Zharikovo (a village on the other side of the Kizhi where the museum staff live) and was walking to his house (where the guides live) when he saw a strange object in the sky.

From the island, this phenomenon was simultaneously observed by Lyudmila Saltup, the museum curator, and Galina Gorina.

Naumov describes the phenomenon as follows:

“I went out on the porch of the house at 19.35. The darkness is pitch-black, frost degrees 43-47. At first it seemed to me that one star fell in the sector in the southeast-east direction. The magnitude is about a signal flare. Then the luminous object passed from about half a degree, then it disappeared and a line of the same color went, straight, clean, smooth, with a bulge upward.

Then the color disappeared and the line, too, remained something like a white star - you can't tell it from a real star, but still there was a little yellowness. The star has stopped - there is a haze around it, a halo, like light through a fog or a veil.

I stayed in place for about five minutes - and began to go down to the left, back in the direction of travel. Disappeared at about 19.48-19.50, but together with it disappeared and 3 more stars, apparently, went into the clouds. By the way, when I went out on the porch at about 19 o'clock, I saw the polar lights in half the sky …"
