Abnormal phenomena, as a result of which essences from another world appear, often occur within the walls of ancient cathedrals, churches and temples. These include the London Cathedral of St. Paul. A mysterious translucent figure in a light robe has been seen more than once by the ministers of the cathedral. According to their stories, the ghost has the appearance of an elderly priest who wanders around the western part of the building, most often appearing in a place where a secret passage was once accidentally discovered. Sometimes, the vision is also accompanied by chilling sounds of a very high tonality.

There is also a haunted temple in Prague. This is St. James's Church located in the Old City. They say that the ghost of a one-armed thief dwells in the church building. There is a legend that during the years of the Thirty Years War, soldiers of the Swedish army broke into the temple with vile intentions to plunder the temple, but when one of the soldiers reached for the precious goblet, a holy angel appeared and as punishment for the desecration of the temple, he cut off his hand. Now the restless spirit, that very one-armed warrior, is wandering around the temple, hoping to find his severed limb. This story is reminiscent of the bas-relief with the image of cut off hands, located above the entrance to the church.

There are also mysterious pages in the history of the Moscow Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed. The spirits of this cathedral are evidenced by the entries made in the diary of the Englishwoman Martha Wilmot in 1807, who was in Russia at that time. She writes: “A strange and inexplicable event happened a few days ago. They talk about it all over Moscow, and no one doubts what happened. In the middle of the night, the cathedral watchman heard the loud clatter of horses. Frightened, he called the minister to see who it might be. At that moment, the doors of the church opened by themselves and they saw two warriors illuminated by the radiance, who, having prayed before the image of Our Lady of Kazan, loudly announced that they would come to the aid of their compatriots in the battle against the French and Bonaparte's army would be defeated. It is believed that these shining warriors were Kozma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky, which in 1612, liberated Moscow from the Polish invaders.
