Very strange things often happen in the world of the paranormal. Ghosts, angels, aliens and other equally unusual encounters, these things make us think about what is happening. Among these anomalous messages are often genuine oddities that don't fit into any known category. It seems that these messages are not related to aliens, ghosts or anything else that inhabits the paranormal world and perhaps they really come from a completely different universe.

A rather bizarre encounter that is difficult to classify took place in 1973 in the coastal town of Sandown on the Isle of Wight in southeastern England. In May of that year, a 7-year-old girl and another child were exploring the wilderness around a place called Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club when they heard a shrill, dull sound in the distance, reminiscent of an ambulance siren. Curiosity got the better of them and the two children ventured to find the source of the strange noise and walked out to a clearing adjacent to nearby Sandown Airport, where the sound suddenly stopped.

The two bewildered children looked around, still trying to figure out where this haunting sound came from, and when they crossed the footbridge over the stream, they soon found it. From the shadows under the fragile old wooden bridge beneath their feet, a strange creature emerged, the likes of which none of them had ever seen before, crawling out of the darkness to stand before them. In an article about this encounter, published in 1978 in the journal of the British UFO Research Association, author Norman Oliver described what they saw as follows:

He was almost 7 feet tall and had no neck because his head seemed to be squeezed right into his shoulders. He wore a yellow pointed hat that was intertwined with the red collar of a tattered green tunic. A round black handle was attached to the top of his hat, and wooden antennas were attached to both sides. The face had triangular eye markings, a brown square nose, and fixed yellow lips. Other circular markings were on his snow-white face, and on his forehead bangs of red hair. Wooden planks protruded from his sleeves and the bottom of his white trousers.

It is also rather strange that this clown-like entity was reportedly holding something that looked like a regular paper book, which he flipped awkwardly before tossing it into the stream below. The creature then jumped into the water, found its book, and crawled out, drenched in water, to jump from its spot in a series of jumps that seemed to defy gravity. Puzzled children watched as he approached a small metal hut and disappeared inside, whereupon he reappears with something like a microphone in his hand, which was attached to a black box with a button on it. It was from this strange device that the strange sound that they had heard earlier began to be heard again.

As they began to retreat into the forest, the sound suddenly stopped again, and after a few moments a voice came that asked uncertainly, "Are you still here?" The children were scared, but still very curious, and they cautiously returned to the clearing to see what the surreal object was up to. When they did, he seemed almost happy to see them, and excitedly pulled out his wet book to write a message in which he showed the children to read and in which it was written in childishly scrawled letters: “Hello, I - Sam".

He then began to speak to them, albeit eerily, without moving his lips, and since his voice seemed calm and non-threatening, the children came closer to talk to him.

During the conversation, the creature calling itself Sam stated that he was not human, and when asked if he was a ghost, he simply replied, "Not really, but I'm in between worlds." He explained that his relatives are very afraid of people and avoid meeting with them.

This entity invited the children to its metal house, which was completely windowless and had one entrance similar to a trap door. There were two floors inside, and in this place there was a metal floor, some kind of dials and knobs on the wall, and pieces of wood scattered on the floor. It looked like a dump.

It was here, in this strange little shack, that Sam finally took off his strange hat and took out the round thingy, which he stuffed into a rounded white ear, and then it suddenly appeared in the eye socket and then appeared in the mouth. It was like magic tricks. This delighted the children and they now completely calmed down, eventually staying in the house for about an hour before saying goodbye and returning home.

When the girl told her father about the strange meeting, he went to look for the "clown". Unfortunately, there was no trace of Sam or his strange hut, and no one in the area saw anything like what was described, although the kids were adamant that the metal dwelling was right there and that their story was completely true. Since then, the so-called "Sandown clown" has not been seen again. Was Sam an alien, ghost, or traveler from a parallel universe? We will probably never know.
