About 35 kilometers northeast of the Indian city of Gaya in the state of Bihar, you can find an absolutely flat, sun-scorched plain, among which a 3-kilometer rocky ridge stretches. In the center of this ridge there is a complex of man-made caves known as Barabar. And one and a half kilometers away, in the rocky hill of Nagarjuni, there are the same cavities. The Barabar group has 4 caves and the Nagarjuni group has 3.
Most of these caves appeared during the Mauryan era, that is, in 322-185 BC. Presumably, Buddhist and Hindu ascetics once lived in them, who, according to the official version, carved huge grottoes into the rock. One can only guess how much time and effort it took them. However, many alternative researchers consider the Barabar and Nagarjuni caves to be ancient bunkers, created in case of any cataclysm - say, a meteorite fall.
Inside the granite grooves, some religious texts carved into the walls can be found, as well as sacred sculptures. In addition, the most unique acoustics is observed here: you simply stop recognizing your voice if you speak inside. The precision and care with which these rooms have been completed are amazing. The knowledge of geometry and the skills of the ancient Indians who created these masterpieces were clearly ahead of their time. Even though some of the grottoes were not completed for unknown reasons.
The aforementioned alternative researchers are convinced that the Barabar and Nagarjuni caves are not too similar to religious sites. Why didn't the Indians build a traditional temple that would be more visible to the population? According to some experts, these depressions in the granite look exactly like bomb shelters or rooms for storing hazardous materials. Or maybe the amazing cavities were completely carved into the rocks by representatives of an extraterrestrial civilization? And people captured and adapted them to religious needs, most likely, much later …
