An ancient house of the 19th century next to the Annunciation Monastery in Nizhyn (Ukraine) once belonged to the abbot of the monastery - the famous church figure Viktor Chernyaev. It is with his name that the flourishing and revival of the monastery is associated after the terrible fire that broke out here at the end of the 18th century.
Viktor Chernyaev himself was a native of Montenegro, was born into a merchant family, his parents dreamed that his son would receive an education in Vienna. But on the way to Austria, the future archimandrite went to Kiev and entered the theological academy there. So began his rapid ascent up the career ladder, and already in 1803 Viktor Chernyaev was appointed abbot of the monastery in Nizhyn.
The authorities were in no hurry to allocate money for the revival of the monastery after the fire, and construction was carried out mainly at the own money of the new abbot, although the costs were partially covered by charitable donations.
Despite such noble activities, soon a black streak began in the life of the rector: a conflict with the new Chernigov archbishop, disfavour with the higher church authorities and, as a result, Chernyaev's dismissal from the post of rector.
It was rumored in the city that the abbot's mansion was very much liked by the new monastic authorities and the former abbot was actually thrown out into the street from their own homes. Apparently, not bearing such an undeserved resentment and forgetting the commandments of forgiving enemies, Chernyaev cursed the house and all its inhabitants, so that it would be discouraging for the new impostor owners to encroach on someone else's and weave vile intrigues.
From that time on, strange things began to happen here - from the category of those that our ancestors explained by the pranks of evil spirits. In the middle of the night in the house, windows began to open by themselves and slam, floorboards creak …
It became sad to live there, and the new owners, probably, more than once regretted that they had unjustly offended the abbot. Meanwhile, Viktor Chernyaev left Nizhyn for his homeland, Montenegro, cursing "goodbye" not only the house, but the monastery itself. He said that this monastery would not last more than a hundred years.

And so it happened: the October Revolution began, and the Annunciation Monastery was closed. The monks returned here only in 1999. But the calm and peaceful life did not work out. As local residents say, in the monastery every now and then there are some quarrels and conflicts, the monks scatter, and again the monastery falls into decay. Is the curse of the old abbot still weighing on the monastery?
It turns out that the house near the Annunciation Monastery is famous for another curse. The second part, added later, belonged to the wealthy Nezhinsky Greeks. They hired local craftsmen for the construction, they completed all the work under the contract, and when it came time to pay, the owner of the promised money regretted. He paid so little that the masters took offense and decided to take revenge on the stingy owners.
It must be said that builders have long been considered by the people to be strong magicians: they could not only build a house, but also take revenge on the owner for an offense. And moreover, revenge is very original: to "plant" an evil spirit in the house - kikimora.
Locals said, however, that the Nezhin craftsmen had weapons for stingy customers even without any witchcraft: it was enough to wedge a bottleneck into the wall, and terrible howls on windy nights were provided.
It is not known what the builders came up with this time, but thanks to the offended craftsmen, a spirit appeared in the house that did not give the owners any rest. He slammed windows and ran around the attic with a terrible crash. But worst of all, the curse touched the owner himself: he died childless.
The current owners of the "accursed" house also suffer from the tricks of the kikimora and have even gained fame in some way. More than once, television has come to the "haunted house" to film an amazing phenomenon.
But here's the bad luck - all the time there are some problems with the technique: then the sound will disappear on the already filmed material, or even there is no image at all. Apparently, ghosts do not strive for publicity and for some reason they do not like journalists.
They also say that for some reason men cannot take root in the cursed house - they get sick and die. But women, on the contrary, feel great, especially representatives of creative professions.
