In this deserted desert you can see the so-called ghosts of camels, which are vaguely guessed in the outlines of the rocks. For a long time, their extreme degree of destruction allowed them to hide from the gaze of archaeologists. But an accidental find revealed two unique schools of sculptors at once on the Arabian Peninsula.
Camel cult was widespread throughout the Sakaka Basin and in particular in the Jawf province of Saudi Arabia. But due to the corrosive effect, as well as as a result of active destruction by man himself, it is extremely difficult for archaeologists to determine when and by whom these sculptures were created.
As a result of the research carried out, scientists have suggested that these sculptures were created in the interval from 2,100 to 1,900 years ago. This conclusion was made on the basis that this was the style of the image used at that time.
It is still not clear what purpose the creators of the sculptures pursued, but most likely they were used in religious rituals, which were widespread even before the active spread of Islam. The strong abrasion of the sculptures most likely arose from the active touch of people during the rituals.
Also, according to the assumption of scientists, the data of the sculptures showed that the difficult and dangerous path through the desert is over and further the path will be much easier.
Unfortunately, this is all that is known about these unique sculptures and images of "ships of the desert". The scientific community is trying with all its might to preserve the unique historical monument, but active construction threatens to be completely destroyed.
