Jason Richardson is an experienced 48-year-old hiker who has climbed the Appalachian Mountains and many of Europe's mountain ranges. But he could not imagine what awaited him in the mountains of Northern California.
“It was a 9.5-mile day trek around beautiful Lake Tahoe that was to end at Mount Tallac,” says Mr. Richardson.
Richardson's experience allowed him to finish the route ahead of time and, again, as an experienced hiker, he brought enough food and water with him so as not to feel the need for at least 17 hours. However, Jason turned out to be too arrogant and after ten hours of walking he was very tired.
The man sat down to rest and when he reached for a bottle of water hanging from his belt, he suddenly heard a strange guttural sound that reminded him of the cry of a human child.
- I decided that I should check if there really is a child and he got into trouble. I put the bottle on the stones and walked towards the bush, where the sound came from. Immediately after that moment, I woke up somewhere else and had a severe headache. I was in a large cave, the sound of flowing water came from somewhere. And then I saw something that I will never forget.
There were two figures that looked like bearish ones. They stood and seemed to be arguing with each other. The sounds of their voices were as guttural as I heard on the trail.
Jason felt severe pain in the back of his head and when he tried to touch the back of his head, he saw some blood on his fingers. Apparently he was hit hard with a fist or a stone.
- Their hands resembled those of a man, they had no claws and they were hairless to the elbows. But the body and legs were covered with thick red hair. Moreover, the legs were covered with wool so densely that I could not distinguish the fingers on my feet.

I was terrified, I did not understand what was happening. All this was like a nightmare and I already began to think that apparently I ate something or drank something spoiled and I started hallucinations. But everything was creepy real. At the same time, my arms and legs were tied with some kind of vegetable rope, and these creatures stood very close and they were very high 8 or 10 feet (2.4 -3 meters).
And then they came up to me and from incredible horror I wet my pants. I'm not ashamed to talk about it, I've never been so scared in my life. And at that moment I got a good look at their heads. They reminded me of the heads of vultures, since their necks were completely bald. The hair on their heads was red and they had something stuck in them like black feathers. And their eyes were very black and large.
The largest grabbed my bound legs and dragged me silently across the cold stone floor. I was silent too, afraid that I would draw attention to myself and make him angry. And the second, smaller in stature, suddenly ran up and kicked me hard in the chest, and then I seemed to lose consciousness again.
When I woke up for the second time, they did not touch me, but brought some objects. I was sitting against the wall and my arms and legs were untied. From fatigue, I leaned my back against the stone wall of the cave and felt the water flowing along the wall flowing through the collar of my shirt.
Suddenly these creatures came up to me again, grabbed my arms and legs, dragged me and … threw me out of their cave. I hit my back hard against a rock, but got up quickly and ran as fast as I could. I lost my backpack and my supplies of food and water that I had with me, but I have never run so fast.
I soon found a familiar path and got to my car. When I looked at my watch, I realized that I had been held captive by these creatures for about 10 hours. And you know what else? When I was driving home, at the edge of the forest I saw, it seemed to me, two guys with sticks in their hands, they were tall and with long hair. I don't know what to think.
