England is traditionally called the land of ghosts. But no less famous ghosts are found in Germany

For years, the ghost of the Black Lady has appeared in the royal palaces of Germany and Austria… One day in 1854, the Bavarian king Ludwig I, his wife Queen Teresa and two of their entourage were sitting at tea, when a female figure in a black robe suddenly appeared behind the queen's chair. She disappeared into the next room. The queen soon died of cholera, but none of her household fell ill. In early March 1864, a woman, dressed in black, was met at a Munich palace by an officer on duty. He tried to stop the stranger, but she disappeared, as if she had disappeared into thin air. On March 9, King Maximilian II fell seriously ill, and the next day his death was announced. The death of members of the royal family and representatives of the highest nobility was also foreshadowed by the ghost of the White Lady. It first appeared in 1619 at the Hohenzollern residence. King Johann Sigismund died a day later. On August 4, 1786, the Prussian king Frederick the Great and his servant watched the phantom of a woman dressed in white at the fireplace. Gradually, the vision faded. The next day, the king died in 1806 The lady in white foreshadowed the death of the Prussian prince Ludwig in the battle with the French. In 1867, she was seen at Schönbrunn Castle, the residence of the Habsburgs, before the tragic death of Archduke Maximilian. The same thing happened shortly before the assassination of the Austrian Empress Elizabeth in the fall of 1898, and in June 1914, the White Lady reappeared in Berlin, in the imperial palace. Very soon the whole world learned about the murder in Sarajevo of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which served as a pretext for the outbreak of the First World War … Nowadays, a ghost nicknamed "the Hamburg postman". Gerhardt Dieter, who served as a postman in the Alton district, died in the fall of 1960. A few days after the funeral, Gerhardt was seen on the street with a mail bag. However, there were no letters or newspapers in the bag. He has appeared many more times. At the same time, he looked exactly the same as during his lifetime, but did not enter into communication with the living. He was even photographed. The Munich professor Bender was studying this phenomenon, thanks to whom this case entered as a classic in all books on parapsychology and occultism.

An evil ghost lies in wait for travelers near the city of Deggendorf, in the place where the railroad passes through the tunnel. In the late evenings and at night, the ghost girl lures the late passers-by into the tunnel, where they fall under the trains rushing at high speed. For 32 years, the insidious ghostly maiden became the culprit for the death of 19 people.

The German town of Kamtel attracts tourists with the relics of a villainous knight and chilling stories in the spirit of Gothic novels. More than three centuries ago, the feudal knight Calebuts lived in this area. He coveted the love of a young girl, but she rejected the knight. Then, in revenge, as the legend says, he killed her fiancé - a young shepherd. The matter went to court, which acquitted the feudal lord. At the trial, the Calebuts exclaimed: if I am a murderer, then may God please that after my death my body will never decay.

A hundred years after the death of the feudal lord who escaped the well-deserved punishment, repairs were started in the local church and the crypt was accidentally discovered. In one of the coffins lay the well-preserved body of a man. According to the records in the church book, it was established that this is the very Christian Friedrich von Calebuts. The miracle - not decayed relics - did not bury it. This is how this mausoleum of local importance arose, according to the NTV television company.

The sensational find attracts tourists to this day. Scientists cannot figure out why Calebuts' body was preserved so well. The crypt was examined for lead, radium and saltpeter - nothing was found.

Chilling legends were born next to the miracle. So, at the beginning of the 19th century, the French lived here. One of the soldiers pulled the knight's body out into the street and put it out for fun. The next morning, the soldier was found in his own bed, but dead, with a broken neck. No one doubted that the knight avenged himself. Since then, the body was no longer disturbed.

They say that the Calebuts to this day appear in the town at full moon, terrifying visiting tourists. The locals are used to and do not want to part with their legend, although the Japanese and Americans promised big money for the mummy. As the owner of one of the local restaurants said, “He often comes to us before closing - to inquire if the food was tasty, if the tourists were satisfied. Some of them faint. If anyone is dissatisfied, the Calebuts threaten to leave our place and lie down somewhere else. So we try. We cannot do without him. There is a souvenir shop next to the restaurant. Everything here is also associated with the name of the knight and reminds of him and his deeds. The promoted brand brings the city a modest income.

On the banks of the Danube rises the majestic ruins of the Bavarian fortress Wolfsegg. For a thousand-year history, it has never been given to enemies. But although its walls managed to withstand sieges and battles, a crime occurred in the fortress itself, the reflection of which is reflected to this day in the form of the ghost of a woman who died there many centuries ago.

The fortress, built in 1028, belonged to successive warlike Bavarian nobles, most of whom were involved in continuous dynastic strife. One such clan of warriors, the Laabers of Wolfsegg, is associated with the story of a triple murder. History tells that in the 14th century one of the Laaber barons married a beautiful woman who became the victim of a nefarious conspiracy. The baron's greedy relatives, wishing to take possession of the rich estate, compromised the bride by arranging for her a date with another man. They then told the Baron that his wife had gone to an illegal rendezvous. Appearing in the castle, he saw, as it seemed to him, a conspiracy and killed his wife and her imaginary lover. The baron, in turn, was killed by relatives who claimed to have committed an act of retribution.

It is possible that along with property, the relatives inherited the curse. It is said that the murdered Baroness in shining white robes still wanders the halls and stairs of Wolfsegg. Inhabitants of the castle reported seeing a luminous ghost, hearing phantom footsteps and feeling inexplicable drafts.

Skeptics believe Wolfsegg's luminescence is just fumes from the bat-teeming stalactite cave under the castle. Some believe that the "baroness in white" is returning to the place where she was betrayed, trying to justify her good name and take revenge on the treacherous family.
