Central and local authorities in Indonesia are trying to find out on Monday who will be responsible for investigating a mysterious phenomenon - circles in the field discovered a day earlier in the central part of the most populated island of the country Java, according to national media
A resident of a village in the Sleman district of Yogyakarta special district, 20-year-old Yudi, discovered a huge pictogram in a rice field on his way to work on Sunday morning, according to the Kompas website.
“As I walked through the rice field, I saw that some of the rice had died, forming a neat, ordered pattern,” he says.
Circles in the field are the drawings in the form of rings, circles and other geometric shapes that appear in fields with plants, in the sand, in swamps, on snow and on ice. These drawings can be small or so large that they can only be seen in their entirety from an airplane. The nature of their appearance is not fully known, but thousands of cases have been recorded when such pictograms were deliberately made by people in order to hoax. Some associate the appearance of the circles with the landing of an unidentified flying object (UFO).
The circles were recorded in Indonesia for the first time and represent a large circle with a diameter of about 30 meters and enclosed in it two smaller ones and a triangle, according to the website of the Tempo magazine. These regular figures on a field of ripe rice, 60-70 centimeters high, which are clearly visible from the top of the neighboring hill, are formed by wide stripes of stems bent half a meter high.
“I think they were left behind by the same alien spacecraft that I saw on TV,” says local resident Cahyo Utomo.
Local authorities, as befits them, are more cautious in their assessments and immediately began to "coordinate", as is usually called in Indonesia, the process of shifting possible responsibility to someone else.
“We are already in the process of coordinating with the relevant authorities, including the police and the military, to determine the next steps,” a Makwan district leader told Antara National News Agency.

In his opinion, the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space of Indonesia (LAPAN) should also investigate the incident.
The Institute, however, has already washed its hands of participating in the investigation.
“We will not send a group of researchers there, as it is not a cosmic or natural phenomenon. We strongly suspect that this is human work,”LAPAN executive Thomas Djamaluddin told news portal Detik.com in Jakarta.
Not everyone in the capital, however, is equally skeptical. Agung Laksono, the Coordinating Minister (an analogue of the Russian Deputy Prime Minister) for Public Welfare of Indonesia, has precisely determined who is in charge of the mysterious circles.
“First of all, the military is responsible for them. And only then - the Ministry of Agriculture, because it happened in an agricultural area,”he said.
The country's air force commander, Air Marshal Imam Sufaat, ordered a helicopter to be sent to the scene to take aerial photographs of them.
“By examining the photographs, we may be able to determine if the drawings were created by forces that transcend human knowledge,” he said carefully.
There are those in Indonesia who are already clear about the main thing.
“I don't know exactly whether a UFO has landed here or not. It is clear, however, that this is a sign of God's majesty,”said 37-year-old local resident Syamsul Bahri.
