A 2.7-meter great white shark, whose muzzle and belly were painted an unnatural red color, was thrown onto the coast of Massachusetts a few days ago.
The shark was discovered by residents of the coastal town of Truro, after which the researchers examined and dissected the fish.
But it still remains a mystery what caused her death and what part of her body turned red.
After the photos of the red shark were posted on Twitter by the Massachusetts Environmental Police, the pictures scattered around the world media.
When the shark was dissected, they found out that it was a male and that there were three lead fishing weights inside his stomach. But the rest of the shark was both externally and internally in a completely normal state and what caused its redness is still unknown.
The reason why the shark died has also remained a mystery. She was washed ashore, already dead.
The last hope remained in the samples of the shark's skin and viscera, which were transferred for analysis to the laboratory.
