Thoughts on the topic of filled-in first floors of buildings.

So, for days, I walked past one famous house in our city.

Oh! what a handsome man! What a symmetry of the floors!

This miracle was erected by the architect Afanasy Grigorievich Grigoriev - hereinafter a quote from the wiki - "The leading architect of the Moscow Empire style. Known for his participation in the reconstruction of public buildings in Moscow after the fire of 1812, especially the design of noble estates."

How cool he came up with, so that people passing by beat their heads on the "balcony" (in my opinion, it's called a bay window …) !!

What a combination of the stucco molding of the second floor and the simplicity of the stumping of the first! Genius!!! Genius!!

Promotional video:

Or is it not so? Or was it all the same somehow?

This is a different house, but the floors in it are the same in height and decoration. It is enough to revise the photographs of the estates built around that time and the entire absurdity of the architecture of the house in question becomes visible. I think the famous Architect could not build that way.

WHAT IS THEN? !!!!

The first thing that comes to mind is that the house sinks into the ground. And I found direct confirmation of this in an earlier photograph.

The mansion of V. M. Burmistrova. 30s

Here you can see that the sidewalk is much lower than the windows than in the first photo, and people pass under the bay window.

The next photo is a comparison of the entrance lobby in old and new photos.

It can be seen here that the columns on which the canopy rests have grown into the ground. However, the house cannot sink so evenly, without distortions and with columns. The notorious cultural layer? So why did he barely grow over the previous hundred years and then he was dumb! And not half a meter jumped ?! But the photographers say that this is exactly what happened. How so?!!!

I thought that regardless of whether the cultural layer grows around, or the building goes into the ground, inside, there must be a step down at the entrance! at least not the height of the difference in heights to the windows in the photo! Found a photo of the entrance from the inside.

Honestly, I was not there. But I will definitely go soon! I don't see the steps in the photo. But how so ?! And in general, this front door looks somehow ridiculous. Tears apart the stucco on the wall and is much higher than the passage on the right! And then my eyes caught on the stairs.

The number of steps … 8 on the lower part and 11-12 on the upper part … Where are three or four steps? If the door is lowered to this height, it will pass under the stucco molding and will be close to the level of the right passage!

Well, the height of the ceilings and doors on the second floor. They are tall..

The fact is that there is an opinion according to which the height of the dwelling ceilings, for a comfortable existence, should be at least two heights of a person living there … However, the door handles are not high. Under the height of a modern person and by the appearance of the doors, it is not visible that the handles have been rearranged. If only completely new doors.

In general, it is quite clear that the first floor should have been higher. If the cultural layer is growing, why fill the ground floor from the inside, flush with it? And if not, then what is it all about? Why?
