This article is very complex, strange and almost without any solid evidence or facts to call the invention created by Thomas Grubb by the word "telescope".

Oh, this is the official story. We wrote a dozen paragraphs about the incredible invention of that time, and at the end, as with other inventions that raise a number of inconvenient questions, there is always a similar line (everything burned down, was stolen or destroyed by wars). That is, we will not be able to refute this or that information, since the invention was allegedly destroyed, and now, historians are allowed to write whatever they want, for example, that it was “shitty” through which nothing could be seen, since they were absent at that time special lenses! I am silent that all the original details of the invention were removed and replaced with modern ones, in other words, all the most interesting things were taken out, and then, the structure was re-equipped for the simplest telescope!

The question is: why make a huge telescope, realizing that without lenses and technologies “non-existent” at that time, it is useless, to put it mildly?

Now, compare the telescope of the 19th century with modern examples of the 21st century.

In my opinion, modern telescopes with adaptive optics using lasers use technologies developed back in the 19th century! Were and can these telescopes be weapons? Easy! It is enough to increase the energy flux and reduce the beam scattering, which with a probability of 99.9% is provided in every such observatory! There is also an opinion that these telescopes can be used to destroy meteorites (that is why meteorites do not fall in cities, but only in wastelands).

Do you think such telescopes can be weapons against meteorites?
