If people disappeared from the face of the Earth, then the entire evolutionary process would go differently. In 50 million years, our planet would be populated by completely new, unprecedented creatures!

The Life After Man project was created by paleontologist Dougal Dixon. The creatures he depicts are reminiscent of the characters in Tim Burton's films, but everything is created with exceptional attention to the scientific rules of evolution and adaptation of animals to new conditions.

Dixon did a great job trying to stay within the existing scientific paradigm. As a real scientist, he simply could not invent unprecedented creatures - each animal shown in the study has a well-defined set of parameters that will help it survive.

Take, for example, antelopes or horses that live on grassy plains. Before us are animals with long legs (to escape from enemies) and long necks (to reach the grass) and very powerful jaws, and usually elongated muzzles in order to make it easier to eat. The eyes of such creatures are set high to see danger.

If antelopes and horses suddenly die out, then nothing supernatural will come in their place: only creatures with approximately the same characteristics will appear. This method was used by Dixon, creating his project.

The disappearance of a person will not be the darkest day for the Earth. Life will move on, just without us.
