Mirrors are credited with many mystical properties. They say that you can see the past and the future in them, they are able to absorb the energy of people and inanimate objects, mirrors are "windows" into the otherworldly reality. Hence the custom arose to close them when there is a deceased in the house, and there was a sign that breaking a mirror was a sign of trouble. But mysticism is mysticism, and, as they say, there is no smoke without fire. It turns out that "mirror magic" has long been an object of scientific experiments!

Mirror room

Psychiatrist Raymond Moody, author of the famous book Life After Life, dedicated to the posthumous existence of the soul, has been researching the phenomenon of "mirror clairvoyance" for more than 10 years. Moody was interested in numerous stories about the appearance in the mirrors of the reflection of dead people. It turns out that in ancient Greece there were even so-called psychomanteums, where clients consulted with their deceased loved ones, whose ghosts "came" in the mirrors. Moody decided to create something similar to this ancient Greek establishment. On the top floor of an old mill in Alabama, the professor set up a "mirror room," the windows of which were tightly closed and curtained. Opposite the large mirror mounted on the wall in this room was an armchair positioned at such an angle that the visitor could not see his reflection in it. There was only a black velvet curtain reflected, against which the visions arose.

People of various professions participated in the project - lawyers, psychologists, doctors, students.

Dr. Moody asked the volunteers to pre-tune in the upcoming contact with a deceased loved one.

To do this, they looked at photographs, touched things that belonged to the deceased, remembered him. In the evening, the subject was taken to a "mirror room" illuminated by a dim lamp. The man would sit in a chair and relax, disconnecting his brain from everything else. After that, the subject began to gaze intently at the surface of the mirror.

An assistant was on duty in the next room, ready to help in case of unforeseen situations. At the end of the experiment, a long interview was held with his participant, during which he talked about what he saw and felt during this time.

Half of the volunteers stated that they saw their deceased relatives in the mirror and communicated with them.

However, some said that they were completely different, not "conceived" people, most often those with whom the subject had some kind of incomplete, but significant relationship.

Time turned back?

The possibility of time travel is also associated with mirrors. The famous astrophysicist N. A. Kozyrev conducted numerous experiments at the Pulkovo Observatory to create devices capable of transferring objects to the past. He managed to record changes in a split second, for example, when some substances dissolve in water, if the space was shielded (limited) with the help of mirrors.

Director of the Institute of General Pathology and Human Ecology V. P. Kaznacheev conducted a number of experiments with Kozyrev's mirrors. The volunteer was placed inside a chamber with a slightly curved reflective metal inner surface for several hours. The subjects later told that in front of them in these mirrors, like on a movie screen, scenes from the past or the future were unfolding, often having nothing to do with them personally. Participants in the experiment gave detailed descriptions of the events, eliminating doubts about the authenticity of the visions.

Mirror "clairvoyance"

In 2010, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology published an article by the scientific adviser to the US Congress, Professor D. Bam, in which he presented the results of his research. The scientist proved that any person is able to pick up signals coming to us from the future.

The essence of the experiment was as follows. A computer monitor was placed in front of the subject, divided into two halves, each of which was closed with an opaque curtain. Students were asked to guess which half the image was on.

But this was not just a guessing test. The picture was presented to the screen using a random number generator, but not before, but after the student gave an answer.

As it turned out, if the image was emotionally neutral, the number of correct and incorrect answers was in the 50-50 ratio, as it should be according to the theory of probability. If the picture was of an emotionally expressed nature (say, it was erotic), the number of correct answers prevailed. But the experiments involved people without pronounced abilities for extrasensory perception!

Another detail: the correct answers were given much more often if there were mirrors in the room!

The secret of divination

Who doesn't know the ancient practice of divination on mirrors? As a rule, young girls guess this way during Christmas time. They put two mirrors opposite each other, a candle between them, sit by one of the mirrors and begin to peer into the dark corridor. Many people later say that they saw different images in the mirror. As a rule, they wonder about their betrothed.

Biological scientist and popularizer of science V. Mezentsev in the "Encyclopedia of Miracles" unequivocally states: all "mirror visions" are nothing more than just hallucinations.

“How was the fortune-telling usually going? - he writes. - The girl, having waited late in the evening, remains alone in a dark room. Lights a candle and sits down at the table. Trying not to move, she gazes intently at the surface of the mirror. Minutes pass, and gradually she falls into a half-asleep state. And then in her "twilight" consciousness there appear equally "twilight" fleeting visions-images. But there is no way to check what exactly the fortuneteller saw."

Images from other dimensions

Experts from the Moscow State University came to somewhat different conclusions. Lomonosov. Having set up a "mirror cabinet" in the laboratory and thus creating an environment that usually happens in the process of divination on mirrors, they made drawings using monotype. The monotypic method is when random strokes of paint are applied to a smooth surface, and then a blank sheet of paper is applied to it. Freaky blots remain on it, in which familiar objects can sometimes be guessed.

It turned out that the number of recognizable clear images of people, animals and objects that appeared in the "mirror office" was much higher than the average! In some cases, even the thoughts of the participants were captured on paper.

This fact is indirectly confirmed by the so-called Casimir effect, discovered back in 1948. The German theoretical physicist Heinrich Casimir, working with colloidal solutions, found out that between two mirrors or inside an annular hoop mirror (Kozyrev's mirror, which was already mentioned above), the gravitational index changes, and this can lead to curvatures of space and time. That is, being in the “mirror room”, we can receive information from other dimensions!

Of course, not everything in this theory is clear yet. For example, if space and time are distorted, what are the consequences? The mechanism of the appearance of various visions in mirrors is still not fully understood. Perhaps there are still many new discoveries ahead of us.
