Scientists at the University of Massachusetts have come to the conclusion that a time machine that can transport a person into the past can be built using two naked singularities. This is reported by Science Alert.

General relativity allows closed timelike curves to exist under specific conditions that prevent causality from being violated. Thus, nature does not allow paradoxes to arise due to time travel.

However, time loops can be formed in the presence in the physical system of exotic matter with negative mass, the existence of which in the Universe has not been proven.

In the new work, physicists have shown that in some cases time loops can form without exotic matter. To do this, it is necessary to arrange parallel to each other two super-long rods, in the center of which there is a singularity - a point with infinite density, temperature and pressure.

According to modern scientific concepts, the singularities are located at the center of black holes, but in this case they must be covered by the event horizon. Then a closed timelike curve will appear between the rods.
