There are many intriguing stories about time travel. One of the most mysterious is the story of the talented but very eccentric British inventor Samuel Warner.
They say that he learned the secret of ancient Egyptian manuscripts and, based on this knowledge, created a special material that made it possible to make military shells invisible, as well as a time machine. This device is now hidden in a granite crypt at Brompton Cemetery in west London. One has only to open the tomb - and the world will see one of the greatest creations of the human mind.
“So what's the matter? - you ask. “Isn't it easier, finally, to open the crypt doors and see what's inside?” Unfortunately this is not possible. The first reason is the most commonplace - the keys to the crypt were lost a long time ago, and the second … However, let's go in order.
Invisible torpedo
This story began in the Victorian era, and its storylines could be the basis for a good science fiction film. Samuel Alfred Warner was born in 1794 in the family of a sea captain (some sources claim that his father was a carpenter). The boy developed a penchant for inventions as a child.
Having matured, the young man took up serious development. Once Warner made an appointment with the naval historian John Knox Lawton and during the audience asked the scientist if he would like to purchase blueprints for a unique powerful device. The invention was called "invisible torpedo" and, according to the author, was capable of tearing apart any ship.

After asking a huge price for those times - 200,000 pounds sterling (today this amount is equivalent to about seven million) - Warner refused to show his development until he received all the money. It is not known whether this transaction took place. It was rumored that the Duke of Wellington had acquired the schemes of the invisible torpedo and successfully tested the weapon. According to other sources, Warner never got the money, so he took the secret of the torpedo with him to his grave.
Secrets of Ancient Egypt
Warner was friends with Joseph Bonomi, the son of a famous London architect who was fond of Ancient Egypt. One of the visiting cards of Bonomi Sr. was the mausoleum in the shape of an Egyptian pyramid, which he built in the village of Blickling near Norfolk. This structure is still a place of pilgrimage for researchers of the paranormal.
The architect's son inherited his father's sense of adventure and passion for the history of the ancient world. So the inventors decided to build teleport booths in seven different locations in London. The ambitious project was sponsored by Anna Courtois. The woman agreed to a risky adventure not out of the kindness of her soul. In exchange for financial assistance, Warner and Bonomi promised to build a special crypt for Anna and her two daughters, which would allow the ladies to cheat death by moving them to another time.
Unfortunately, four years before the completion of the construction, Anna died. And only in 1852 the body of the deceased was reburied in the crypt, which she dreamed of before her death.
