The babies were born prematurely, but nothing threatens their lives
Omkari Panwar and her 77-year-old husband have long dreamed of a son, but nature gave them a surprise and twins were born in the maternity ward of a hospital in Muzaffarnagar, seven hours from New Delhi, a boy and a girl. Omkari, the fact that she has now become the oldest mom in the world is not something supernatural. The main thing for her is that now her maternal program has been fulfilled and she finally gave her husband the long-awaited heir. Despite the fact that they already have two daughters and even five grandchildren, the couple have always dreamed of a son.
To make the dream come true, Omkari and her husband took emergency measures: they mortgaged a plot of land, sold buffaloes, spent all their savings and even took out a bank loan, because the IVF (in vitro fertilization) procedure in India is very expensive.
The babies were born a month ahead of schedule and are now in the incubator under the constant supervision of doctors. Each of the twins weighs a little more than a kilogram, but doctors believe that while there is no reason for concern - the children are quite healthy, writes the British edition of The Daily Mail.
Until now, the title of "The oldest mother in the world" was shared by the Romanian teacher Adriane Iliescu and the Spaniard Carmela Bousada, who managed to become mothers at 66 years old. Andriana now has a lovely daughter, and Carmela is raising two twin boys.
