Australian scientists were looking for a drug to protect against insulin resistance and suddenly discovered a substance that effectively cope with obesity. Being overweight is a serious risk factor and the new discovery could help solve the problem of obesity once and for all.
Experts at the Centennial Institute and the University of New South Wales have developed an inhibitor of insulin resistance, which leads not only to metabolic disorders, but also type 2 diabetes. The drug P053 was supposed to stop the resistance, but the results of experiments on mice turned out to be negative.
But it turned out that P053 is great in the fight against obesity. The drug enhances the work of skeletal muscles, allowing them to burn fat more efficiently.
At the moment, there is no question of isolating P053 as a separate drug. Scientists still have to carry out a number of studies, but if they are successful, then the "magic" pill for excess weight may well go on sale.
