So what is known about Atlantis from Plato? It is believed that the ancient Greek figure Solon gave him the knowledge of the lost civilization. Atlantis was destroyed in 11600 BC, which coincides with the period of the younger Dryas. According to this, the ice age was triggered by a comet that collided with the Earth during this period. In theory, this could cause sea level fluctuations and flooding of the Sahara desert.
