In the area of Giftun Island near Hurghada, as well as the town of Abu Ramad located to the south along the coast, divers heard chilling sounds.

Noise, knocks and crackles coming from the very bottom were heard by both tourists and experienced divers. The head of the Society for Rescue at Sea and Environmental Protection Hasan at-Teyib proposed three versions of the appearance of terrible sounds. First, it can be songs of big whales.

“Animals can be at a fairly large distance, but water conducts sound waves very well, and they propagate rather quickly and over great distances in its thickness,” he explained.

According to another version, it may be "squeezing", occurring due to cracks in the seabed, formed as a result of earthquakes. The expert recalled that the Red Sea region is a seismically active zone. Third, the ominous sounds may be due to exploration work carried out by oil companies.

Hasan at-Teyib urged not to rush to hasty conclusions and not to put forward frightening and mysterious theories. The authorities have promised to deal with what is happening as soon as possible. For this, a special commission is formed of marine experts, divers and fishermen's associations. It is even planned to involve the Egyptian Navy in its work.
