In the fourth season of the documentary series What on Earth? ("Mysteries of Planet Earth") on the Discovery channel showed pictures of the Mavrinsky Maidan, which is located near Pavlograd. Scientists examined satellite images and said that this place was either an ancient altar or a defensive structure from the time of the Cossacks. Moreover, the program even suggested that a strange site with earthen structures - the Mavrinsky Maidan - could have been created by the inhabitants of Aratta, an ancient state that was once considered fictitious, like Troy.

Maidan is located 80 kilometers from the Dnieper (near the village of Mavrino). Most likely, no one would have paid attention to him if not for his unusual shape. Very much this giant earthen mound with depressions resembles a spider or a crab. There is even a version about its extraterrestrial origin.

According to the stories of local residents, this plot of land has not been cultivated for a long time, so here you can find many rare herbs. However, there is one more thing that draws attention to the "earthen spider". UFO! Yes, yes, several times eyewitnesses stated that they saw a strange flying object near the Mavrinsky Maidan, which resembled an airplane without wings and silently flew quite low above the ground.

According to another version, the Mavrinsky Maidan is just one of 400 mounds that are located in the Pavlograd region. Researchers are surprised by its unusual shape, unusual for earthen pyramids. This is how the theory arose that the Maidan could be a kind of protective structure of the Cossacks. There is both a trench and a hill at the same time. Even the famous Yavornytsky wrote in The History of the Zaporozhye Cossacks that the graves “served as points for the Zaporozhye Cossacks to observe the movement of the Tatars. Most of the graves existed before the appearance of the Cossacks: the remains of the leaders of famous peoples or tribes are buried in them. Thus, the Zaporozhye Cossacks used ready-made earthen embankments and only adapted them for their strategic goal."
Dnipro historians suggest that the Mavrinsky Maidan is the remains of the altar of our ancestors, which also served them instead of a calendar and hours. On the day of the vernal equinox, the sun is right in the center of one of the depressions of the Maidan. Also, you will not see birds here. No trees grow in this area. For unknown reasons, water does not retain between the hills, even with heavy precipitation.
