Mashicoulis - French machicoulis, derived from the medieval French mache-col, "to hit in the head." That is, these are hinged loopholes located in the middle and upper parts of the fortress towers and walls, designed for vertical shelling of the enemy approaching the wall with arrows, hand-held firearms, throwing stones, pouring resin and / or boiling water.

Reader's comment:

There are very few old buildings in Kerch, because during the Great Patriotic War the city was almost completely destroyed. So, from the ancient buildings, the Church of John the Baptist has been preserved in the very center of the city. The building resembles a constructor made of old and reconstructed parts. The new part is made below ground level, but the old one seems to be built in a pit (this can be seen if you go around the church from behind). But, you see, what is the point of building in a pit. Okay, the level of the foundation, but there are still two meters of reserve. In general, I personally support the theory that the ground level was much lower before.

A very interesting video was kindly shared by Vitaly Semyonov, a video that once again confirms that Peter stands on a more ancient foundation than we at the behest of official sources, we assume … the floor level of the first floor is such that the person who is filming, or rather his head, is in line with the surface of the yard territory and at the same time a basement, or something like an underground vaulted tunnel, is even lower by about two meters and is partially covered with sand or something like that … perhaps this is the consequences of the flood, after which the water could hide the ruins of the ancient city for a long time, flowing and washing sand with silt … which is actually everywhere we can observe in different parts of the city during excavation or construction work …

The object is a stove consisting of three furnace vaulted chambers, built of bricks up to 9x16x32 cm in size. Most likely, the stove was used for the production of bricks for the construction of brick buildings on the territory of the city of Cheboksary adjacent to the modern Yaroslavskaya street.

In the city of Mstislavl, Mogilev region, during construction work in honor of the regional festival "Dozhinki 2016", a parking lot was prepared in the city center. Having removed about 1 meter of soil, the workers stumbled upon a structure underground. After excavating, they found about 4 bunkers or warehouses, no one knows for sure. There was nothing of value, an employee of the archaeological museum came with MD and found nothing. After that, these buildings were destroyed and buried.

My main version explaining these facts in this article. There is given a specific example of the release of clay-water masses from the bowels during earthquakes - Liquefaction. If this happens regularly in Japan and New Zealand, it could have happened earlier in places that are now geologically calm. Hence, the selective covering of cities and castles with clay.
