Archaeologists in Mexico during excavations have found an ancient democratic culture. Experts claim that this Tlaxcallan settlement existed around the 1250s AD in the area of the modern city of Tlaxcala.

Scientists said that back in the 1500s, a priest from Spain documented the procedure for the initiation of candidates for government. Based on his notes, from the very beginning, a candidate for a position in the government had to walk naked through the main square, when the crowd around shouted loudly and could even hit him. If the candidate endured such torment, then he went to the temple on the same square, where he was alone for up to two years. During this time, a candidate for government membership had to learn the moral and legal code by heart. In the temple, he was starved to death, and sometimes forced to do a ritual of hemorrhage. As a result, if the candidate survives and passes all the tests, he rises in the eyes of the public to the level of a deity.

After all, the candidate is recorded in the composition of one hundred men, who had the official right to lead the settlement of Tlaxkallan. At the same time, archaeologist Lan Farger said that he would like to see modern politicians so desperately prove their ability to govern the state. The specialist has been performing archaeological excavations since 2007, at the same time he began to study the culture and customs of the ancient settlement of Tlaxkallan. Scientists believe that the ancient city was an example of democracy, where the rulers shared power with the common people and they collectively solve the issues of their settlement.
