Thousands of curious people flock to the village of Jogotirto in the Sleman area, in the central part of the most populous Indonesian island of Java, hearing about a mysterious phenomenon - unique pictograms, or, in other words, "circles" that appeared overnight in a rice field.

The appearance of the drawings was preceded by a strange noise in the night sky

In Indonesia, by the way, this is the first case in the country's history of the appearance of mysterious patterns formed by ears of cereals crushed to the ground, best seen from the air. Some of these images, which periodically appear in many parts of the world, are created by people, wishing to attract attention to themselves.

At the same time, the origin of most of the drawings, including the most complex in execution, has not yet received an unambiguous explanation. According to one version, they are left behind by alien aircraft.

The first to report the Indonesian phenomenon was 20? summer farmer Tukiman. He found a huge pictogram on his way to work in the morning. “As I walked across the field, I saw that in the center of the field, some of the rice had fallen, forming a neat, ordered pattern,” he says.

Guntura Purvanto, head of Jogotirto village, adds that the drawings are a large circle about 70 meters in diameter and enclosed by two smaller ones and a triangle.

These regular figures on a field of ripe rice 60 centimeters high, which are clearly visible from the top of the neighboring hill, are formed by wide stripes of stems bent half a meter high.

Several villagers who live in the immediate vicinity of the rice field admitted to Slemen District Police Chief Ivan Ramana that they heard a strange noise at night, something like the hum of helicopters, but went outside to find no objects in the sky.

“I think they were left behind by an alien spacecraft after landing,” local resident Chahyo Utomo told the Jakarta Post. "It is impossible for a person to do this, let alone a wind or any animal."

In turn, Ngadiran, one of six farmers who own land in the area, claims that he saw with his own eyes a strong tornado “walking” in the field a day before the drawings appeared.

Other eyewitnesses point out unique symbols in the pictograms. "These drawings are fascinating because of their striking resemblance to the Muladhara chakra, one of the main chakras in Tantric Hinduism," Perdana farmer told local news agency Kompas with delight.

The Indonesian authorities are more cautious in their assessments. “We are already in the process of coordinating with the relevant authorities, including the police and the military, to determine the next steps,” one of the district leaders told the national news agency Antara News. In his opinion, the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space of Indonesia (LAPAN) should also investigate the incident.

However, the head of LAPAN, Thomas Jamaluddin, sees nothing extraterrestrial in the appearance of geometric circles near the village of Jogotirto. “There is no need to send experts there, as this is not a cosmic or natural phenomenon. We strongly suspect that this is human work,”he categorically told the Jakarta Globe.

"Trace" always remains

At the moment, the Ministry of Defense has taken the first steps to study the pictograms. “In the course of studying the photographs, perhaps we will be able to determine if the drawings were created by forces that exceed human knowledge,” the country's air force commander, Imam Sufaat, reported, noting that he ordered a research team to be sent to the place where the circles were found by helicopter.

Moeji Raharto, former head of Bosscha, the oldest observatory in Indonesia, adds to what Sufaat said that if this is really the work of alien beings, then they must leave behind at least some kind of "trace".

“The chemical composition of the soil itself can reveal the origin of this phenomenon,” he explains. “For example, when a meteorite enters the atmosphere and evaporates here, it still leaves traces of elements in the air that are not common to the area. Similar results can be expected after soil analysis in the Sleman area.”

There are those in Indonesia who are already clear about the main thing. “I don't know exactly whether a UFO has landed here or not. It is clear, however, that this is a sign of God's greatness,”says 37? summer resident of Jogotirto village Shamsul Bahri.

Meanwhile, some enterprising locals quickly found their way around and set up a business selling photographs with images of unique drawings. “The pictures fly off with a bang. In one hour, 300 photographs were sold,”a peasant named Djoko shared his joy with journalists.

And, apparently, the business of a successful Indonesian will continue to flourish in the near future: crowds of people who want to see either a divine or a cosmic miracle do not dry out, which has already led to the creation of many kilometers of traffic jams on the central highway of the Yogyakarta district.
