The message about the anomalous phenomenon was posted on the Internet (site pbase.com) by the pilot of the Dutch Boeing 747, en route on August 24, 2014 from Hong Kong to Anchorage in Alaska. The pilot identified himself as JPC van Heijst.

So, according to the testimony of this very JPC van Heijst, after about 5 hours of flight from an altitude of more than 10 thousand meters, he noticed something in the ocean that he had never seen in all his flying practice. Directly on course - south of Kamchatka - a red glow flashed on the horizon.

It looked like a lightning bolt, but was directed vertically upward. In addition, no clouds were observed along the course.

The pilot took several images as the plane approached the site of the anomaly. And it became noticeable that the glow, which became more intense, comes from some bright spots in the ocean. Illuminates the sky, painting it orange, which sharply turns into green - the color of the northern lights.

The crew reported their observations to the controllers. They confirmed that the lights were noticed from other planes. Now experts are trying to understand what this phenomenon was. An investigation has begun. No results yet.

The only sensible assumption is that the pilots saw the eruption of an underwater volcano from the plane. And the lava was glowing, pouring spots under the water. By the way, the crew received warnings about earthquakes in Iceland, Chile and San Francisco during the flight. But there were no reports of any cataclysms on the route.

The nature of the phenomenon has not yet been solved. But the hypothesis of an underwater eruption is not without foundation. The place where the fire anomaly was noticed is located in the so-called ring of fire - the volcanic Pacific ring. It runs along the border of the Pacific plate, covers both Americas, Japan, Kamchatka, Indonesia, New Zealand - regions where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions often occur.
