April Britt from Northampton, Massachusetts heard a strange noise in her backyard and went out to see what it might be. What she saw led the woman into great amazement. On a branch of a tree sat and squeaked a large gray cardinal chick (a bird from the family of finches), which had two heads and three beaks.
April and her husband have lived in this house for 26 years, but they have never seen anything like it. She managed to take some photos, after which she went home. Returning a couple of hours later, she found the bird fallen on the ground.
Fearing that the cat might devour the chick, Eptil carefully put it back on the branch, but the next morning she could not find it anywhere. She even asked a neighbor if he saw an unusual chick, but he did not see anything.
Fearing that with such a defect, the chick would not survive in nature, April notified the Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and showed them the photos she had taken. They said that the chances of surviving a chick with such an anomaly are very low and in general, it is not clear how he ate at all. It is possible that his parents fed him, but he himself will not be able to get his own food.
- It is not clear what caused this rare anomaly, - says specialist Valerie Osborne, - Maybe when the bird was preparing to lay an egg, there was a lack of important vitamins and calcium in its body, or there was an embryo injury.
