Researchers in the UK have found a strange relationship between belief in the paranormal and the frequency of déjà vu. The results of a corresponding study conducted by the staff of Northumbria University appeared on the official website of the British Psychological Society.
Scientists found a correlation between belief in ghosts and the frequency of déjà vu in a survey of about 100 volunteers. Respondents were required to fill out a questionnaire indicating, among other things, their subjective assessment of the likelihood of ghosts and other manifestations of paranormal activity, as well as their frequency of conditions called déjà vu.
Déjà vu (literally translated from French “already seen”) is a state in which a person thinks that he has already experienced exactly the same moment in time, being in a completely identical environment. Surprisingly, the researchers note, this psychological state has a connection with belief in the paranormal. “Déjà vu, in general, is a fairly common phenomenon, but in a specific case, when we talk about people who experience it more often than usual, and at the same time seriously believe in ghosts, we are probably on the verge of discovering a special type of psyche, which and the connection is conditioned,”says Chloe Pickles, author of the study.
