In New Zealand, a couple who lived together for 67 years died on the same day with a difference of several hours. Hugh Nees, 94, and his 92-year-old wife, Joanne, died of natural causes in their sleep.

The late daughter Joy Reid said: "We think it was a miracle, just like they wanted." She added that, according to doctors' forecasts, Joan should have died before her husband. However, he died at 10:20 am, and his wife followed him two hours later.

According to Stuff.co.nz, the health of pensioners has been deteriorating lately. For the past three months they have not left their room. "They said they wanted to die together, but I did not expect that this would really happen," said the daughter of an elderly couple.

Hugh and Joanne Nys met in the 1940s and have rarely separated since. The Hutt was a Baptist minister and lived with his wife at various times in various cities in New Zealand, as well as in Papua New Guinea. Joan helped her husband in church.

“They were not only engaged in the same business, but also deeply loved each other, they had a very close relationship, which was based on a deep faith in God and the belief that marriage is for life,” - said Joy Reed.

In February, a similar story of faithful conjugal love ended in the US state of California. Floyd Hartwig, 90, died on February 11; his 89-year-old wife, Violet, passed away a few hours later. The couple, who also lived together for 67 years, held hands until the last.
