Synchronicity (synonyms: synchronicity, synchronicity - from the Greek "simultaneous") is the same type, the grouping of two or more events around one semantic center. The speech in this material will be about the amazing and incomprehensible from the standpoint of common sense repetition of externally unrelated phenomena. The term "synchronicity" was introduced by the Swiss psychologist and thinker C. G. Jung, separating it from mere chance.

The story of the ship "Titanic"

It is known that in medicine there is the concept of "paired cases syndrome" (although it has not been officially confirmed) - a mystical duplication of rare diseases or conditions in different people that have no relation to each other. So, for example, if a person comes to the emergency room of a hospital with a bite of a scolopendra, which is exotic for these parts, then after a while another person can be delivered there with the same bite - from another part of the city.

A classic example of synchronicity was and remains the story of the Titanic supership. It began with a myth according to which the god of the gods Zeus threw the titans who rebelled against him into the dark depths of Tartarus … Several years before the sinking of the Titanic, the American writer Morgan Robertson published the story "Futility", in which he predicted the subsequent tragic events (in the text the sailing ship is called " Titanium"). And in 1912, the "unsinkable" miracle ship "Titanic" sinks in the depths of the Atlantic as a result of a collision with an iceberg. The "echoes" of this tragedy have long agitated the minds of curious citizens: in 1939, the Titanian slightly touched the ice block, which damaged the ship and scared the crew to death; a huge block of ice fell on the roof of the house and broke it when the family watched a movie about the sinking of the Titanic on TV;the main character of "Titanic" actress Kate Winslet played the role of Shakespeare's Ophelia in the movie "Hamlet", which, as you know, drowned. Another main character of the Titanic, the actor DiCaprio in the film The Beach, is also occupied with the "water" theme …

As you know, all cinematic versions of the sinking of the Titanic were filmed in safe studio conditions (except for the version of James Cameron, who sank into the ocean to shoot the real Titanic). Repeated offers of money aces to recreate a full working copy of the Titanic were rejected. This idea never found someone who would bring it into reality - the mystical threat posed by the ill-fated ship seemed too frightening …

Plum pudding

Camille Flammarion, a French astronomer, in his legendary book The Unknown describes a series of strange events that happened to his friend, the poet Émile Deschamps. During his studies at school, Deschamps sat at the same desk with a boy named M. de Forguibu, who lived for several years in Great Britain, where he became addicted to the British national dish - plum pudding. Emil also tried this dish, but did not find anything special in it. One day, as an adult, Deschamps walked past a restaurant and saw how plum pudding was being prepared. Nostalgic memories forced the poet to enter the establishment and order a dish. The pudding, however, had already been ordered … thus Forgibu! He recognized his school friend and, of course, invited him to eat at the table … Many years passed. Somehow Deschamp came to visit, where the same English pudding was served. The poet remembered a story with a friend and told it to the guests. Some of those present even jokingly said that only your school friend is missing for today's pudding. Then there was a knock on the door and entered … Forgibu, however, very old - it turns out that he was heading to visit his neighbors, but confused the door. The amazed Deschamp, with the consent of the hosts, invited Forgibu to the table, and at the end of the meal said: “Now I will not be surprised if I meet Forgibu for the fourth time. After all, it is enough to order plum pudding somewhere! "The amazed Deschamp, with the consent of the hosts, invited Forgibu to the table, and at the end of the meal said: “Now I will not be surprised if I meet Forgibu for the fourth time. After all, it is enough to order plum pudding somewhere! "The amazed Deschamp, with the consent of the hosts, invited Forgibu to the table, and at the end of the meal said: “Now I will not be surprised if I meet Forgibu for the fourth time. After all, it is enough to order plum pudding somewhere!"

Spooky coincidences

The gloomy "humor" of some "cosmic joker" or a looking-glass trickster (a clownish character in mythology) is also manifested in the tragic coincidences of our lives.

October 24 is a "rainy day" for the Baikonur cosmodrome, a day of remembrance for the victims. Twice - in 1960 and 1963 - on October 24, the two largest disasters in the world occurred here, resulting in the death of maintenance personnel. Both happened during a missile test launch. It is known that rocket launches were never scheduled for that day, and October 24 was officially declared a day of mourning at Baikonur.

September 11, 2001, the most eerie day in the history of the United States, marked by a series of terrorist attacks on the towers of the World Trade Center in New York and on the Pentagon, which killed several thousand citizens. However, the tragedy was preceded by numerous signs, which were regarded as synchronicity only in hindsight, when the disaster had already occurred. The most egregious such sign was the disc of the American rap group The Coup, which they released two months before the tragedy - with the explosion of the twin towers on the cover … Naturally, the authors of this musical project were soon forced to withdraw the disc from sale, in addition, they were attracted by the FBI in connection with their possible involvement in the terrorist attack.

Human factor

Any synchronicity is associated with a person. If he does not see coincidences, does not attach importance to them, or when they are explained by people in a natural way, synchronicity does not exist. So, for example, returning to the "syndrome of paired cases" - if even ten patients with signs of a heart attack are admitted to the admission department of the cardiology department in a row, here the synchronicity is rather subjective than objective, and we will be mistaken, referring these coincidences not to commonplace to the realm of the paranormal. A great number of phenomena that are stereotypically repeated in our life cannot be called synchronicity for understandable and natural reasons. There are more than enough examples: sunrise and sunset, circulation, resonance, passenger train schedules, and so on. Synchronicity is by no means any coincidence, but only one that strikes us with its extraordinaryabsurdity or rarity.

Attempts at a scientific explanation

The most serious attempts to construct a theory to explain this phenomenon were made by the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, together with the Nobel Prize winner in physics Wolfgang Pauli.

According to the authors, synchronicity is a manifestation of a non-causal connection between objects in the Universe, which does not depend on distance and time, an eternal and constant connection, but it is not always revealed in the form of physical phenomena. The key point in the definition of synchronicity is the coincidence of the mental state of the observer with an ongoing external event, which should not only be recorded by him, but also noted as synchronicity. In other words, the overwhelming majority of essentially synchronous events are not noticed by the observer, and therefore are not evaluated and do not exist as such. A joint essay by the famous physicist and psychologist, published in 1952, attracted general attention, gaining immense popularity, but by now it was almost forgotten even among professionals. Subsequent research did not add practically anything new to what Jung and Pauli said, about which Steward Gordon, author of The Encyclopedia of the Paranormal Sciences, complains inconsolably: on the issue of synchronicity, "we still remain intellectually in darkness."

And professor of psychology Allan Cambs (USA) writes: “My many years of experience show that coincidences usually happen in succession. The more you get used to them, the more often they happen. And if you sweep them aside, considering them nonsense, they avoid you … The more serious you take them, the more role they play in your life …

In conclusion, it should be added that since the results of modern studies of synchronicity leave much to be desired, we will confine ourselves only to recognizing the fact that many aspects of human experience are both causal and non-causal. At the same time, the very possibility of the existence of synchronicity in our world lies in the laws of the subtle world, of which only one should be named, but the leading regularity is the principle of everything connected with everything by direct, immediate and instant connection, when the question of causality, simply put, is removed.
