On February 9th, Jon Eiden of Shono County, Wisconsin went ice fishing with his father. Soon a fish pecked at the bait, and it turned out to be huge: its head stuck out from one edge of the hole, and its tail - from the other.
After measurements, it turned out that the sturgeon reaches a length of 217 cm, its mass is 77.5 kg. Returning home, John began to look for information about such giants, but was forced to admit that by weight this is not the highest indicator, not only in the world, but even in the country. The US Department of Natural Resources tracks especially large fish, and in 2012 a fish was found more than 222 cm long and weighing almost 109 kg. She was estimated to be 125 years old at the time, meaning she was born in 1887. She was put on the register and released.
However, John's sturgeon breaks the record for the longest fish caught: the previous one (2018 catch) was 214 cm.
John has already been contacted by a biologist who had observed this fish earlier. A tracker was implanted in the sturgeon's belly several years ago; Now the device has been handed over to scientists, and they will be able to learn more about the life and nutrition of this aquatic inhabitant, who lived for about 130 years. And the Aiden family is now engaged in fish cutting: inside it was 9 kg of black caviar. They plan to smoke the meat.
