Russia is actively working on the creation of artificial intelligence systems, but the current level of research is significantly inferior to Western and Chinese efforts in this area, American analyst Samuel Bendett from CNA (Center for Naval Analyzes) said on the pages of Defense One.

"Western and Chinese efforts are currently significantly ahead of Russian initiatives in terms of funding, infrastructure and practical results," the expert believes.

In his opinion, based on the available data, at present, the Western military does not need to worry about the next generation of Russian weapons integrated with artificial intelligence systems, "except, perhaps, in the field of electronic warfare."

“But the Russian government is clearly committed to integrating existing academic and industrial resources to achieve a breakthrough in artificial intelligence - and it may well be able to achieve it,” the expert concludes.

Bendette recalls that recently in Russia, special attention has been paid to artificial intelligence, which, in particular, explains the statement of the country's President Vladimir Putin that a leader in this area will become the master of the world.

The expert cites the statements of the Russian military, who claim that the country is working on integrating artificial intelligence systems with drones, missiles and airplanes.

Earlier, Bendett said that Russian developments of military unmanned aerial vehicles lagged behind similar foreign ones, but noted the country's leadership in electronic warfare.
