But few people know that the writer was faced with the supernatural not only within the framework of creativity, but also in everyday life.
Bulgakov's first such meeting with the "other" world took place in 1918, during the autumn cold, when the author suffered from withdrawal symptoms due to the long use of drugs.
In a moment of particular gravity, the writer, who was going crazy with pain, saw Nikolas Vasilyevich Gogol in reality. After a while Bulgakov would write this unaccountable event on paper in his personal diary: "a small man came to me with a sharp and elongated nose, who looked at me and shook his finger with anger in his eyes …"
The next morning, the writer with difficulty reconstructed the events of the previous night and could not understand whether this was happening in reality or in delirium from withdrawal. But after that, Mikhail Afanasevich completely “tied up” with a disastrous passion.
Another meeting of the writer with the otherworldly happened in 1927. Then he had difficult times: quarrels in the family, his works did not want to be published, there was no money. All this drove Bulgakov into a severe depression.
Once, walking along the streets of the capital, he accidentally noticed a man who was looking at him "aimingly" and nodded towards a beautiful building with stucco molding. In this strange passerby Bulgakov recognized Gogol.
Imagine the writer's surprise when, after some time, for the first time seeing his future wife Elena home, he saw that she lived in the very building pointed to by a man who looked like Gogol. It turns out that long before the writer met a girl, Nikolai Vasilyevich predicted a meeting with the woman of his life.

The third and last mystical meeting of two great people took place in 1932.
Then Bulgakov worked on the theatrical production of Dead Souls. Things were not very good: the cast, design, decorations - everything was not right.
And somehow Gogol dreamed of a writer, where he shouted at him and accused him of something. Bulgakov only had time to make excuses. In the morning he could not remember anything, but one phrase stuck in his head: "Cover me with your greatcoat." What could this mean? Unfortunately, he never found out.
But after Bulgakov's death, their mystical connection with Gogol received an unexpected embodiment. While choosing a tombstone for the writer, his widow accidentally saw a large stone with a cross. The one that once towered over the grave of Nikolai Vasilyevich. Elena at the same moment asked to put this stone on the grave of her husband, under which he lies to this day.
