Why do people constantly get sick and die in some homes, murders and suicides occur? Is this a lost place or just a series of coincidences?

A huge mansion in the California city of San Jose has long been a place of pilgrimage for tourists. The house has 40 stairs, each of which has 13 steps in the span, and some of the stairs do not lead anywhere and rest against the ceiling, all the windows in the house have 13 glass fragments, and in one of the rooms the window is made right in the floor.

The mansion has 40 bedrooms, which are almost impossible to get into without a guide due to the complex architecture of the house. Often, only blank walls can be found behind the doors. In the numerous basements of the house, there are abnormally cold zones - they say that ghosts made them so, the appearance of which in the world of the living should be accompanied by a grave cold.

House of Winchesters

Once upon a time on the site of a strange building there was a cozy colonial-style mansion. Its owner was Oliver Winchester - the inventor of the famous rifle, which, according to many, decided the outcome of the American Civil War. After Oliver's death, both the house and the great fortune of the inventor passed to his son William and daughter-in-law Sarah.

But as soon as the young moved to the house of Mr. Winchester, the family began to pursue misfortunes. The little daughter of Sarah and William died, and then the father of the family. The servants also began to get sick and, fearing to share the fate of the owner and his daughter, tried to find a new place for themselves as soon as possible.

The mistress of the house, Sarah Winchester, was sure that the ghosts of the soldiers killed from the famous rifle of her father-in-law, who came to avenge their death, were the culprits of the strange events. To prevent the ghosts from reaching Sarah, she tried to confuse the guests from the other world, turning her house into a real labyrinth. However, this did not help - Sarah lost her mind.

Since then, the Winchester house has been considered cursed. Even the staff of the museum, into which the mansion was turned after the owner's death, try not to work too long in this institution, fearing that the strange house will harm their health.

The abode of the gallows

Another house, which has earned notoriety, was built on the Moscow Arbat after the end of the 1812 war. In those days, a great lover of old books, Prince Khilkov, lived in the house. The gem of his collection was the book by Jacob Bruce, a supporter of Peter the Great. There were various mystical rumors about Jacob Bruce. He was considered a sorcerer, warlock and alchemist, supposedly able to turn lead into gold. One of the prince's servants became interested in the latter.

He stole the book from storage, but there was no information about the transformation of metals into gold in this work. The footman did not have time to return the book to the vault and hid it in the prince's room. And after a while, the master was found in his office, hanged on his own belt. There was talk that Khilkov was pushed to this act by a hidden book, which retained the negative energy of its author. As for the footman who stole the tome, within a year after his act he drank himself to death and died.

After the tragedy, no one settled in the house for a long time. However, then a retired colonel and his wife drove into the mansion. Soon after the housewarming, the colonel's wife ran away with her lover, and the unfortunate husband strangled himself, unable to bear the worries. Then an ordinary official with his family settled in the house. Several years later, the entire family, including the children, was found hanged.

After these events, a whole series of murders and suicides took place in the cursed house. People who lived in the neighborhood were afraid to even walk past the frightening building. The tragic events on Arbat stopped only after the house was destroyed during the Great Patriotic War. They did not restore it. Now there is a green square on this place.

Science Against Ghosts

One of the versions explaining the existence of damned houses and "bad" apartments, where people are constantly sick and die, was put forward by the scientist Gustav von Pohl. In his opinion, the problems with the physical and mental health of residents are explained by the existence of the so-called geopathogenic zones - places that adversely affect the organisms of plants, animals and humans. According to von Paul and his followers, the cursed houses were built in places where tectonic blocks are displaced at great depths in the thickness of the earth's crust.

Such faults cause harmful substances to rise to the surface of the earth, causing emotional stress and health problems. However, academic science does not recognize the existence of geopathogenic zones and, as a rule, finds another explanation for the diseases of the inhabitants of bad apartments. Among them there are both quite ordinary - increased noise level, air and water pollution, high levels of radiation, and completely unobvious things.

For example, the difference in air temperature in different places of the same room can be explained not only by cracks in the floor and windows, from which it draws in a draft, but by the presence in the room of objects that conduct heat in different ways. Some take it from the atmosphere, creating "cold" zones, while others give it away, making the air around them warmer. It is by this phenomenon called convection that scientists explain the "grave" cold in some rooms of the Winchesters' Californian mansion.

As for the increased conflict and emotional instability of the inhabitants of some houses, sometimes the blame for this is not at all curses and ghosts, but dust, excessive humidity and stuffiness in the room. The fact is that the air we breathe always carries an electric charge on parts of its molecules. These particles are called ions. If a charged molecule settles on a particle of dust or water, the charge becomes positive, and the ion is called heavy.

When there is little fresh air in the apartment, but there is a lot of dust or high humidity, the amount of heavy ions in the air increases sharply, which is why people who stay in such a room for a long time begin to experience anxiety, fears, headache, causeless fatigue and irritation. But this is exactly how eyewitnesses who visited the "bad" houses describe their feelings.

By the way, even the very rumor that the house is considered cursed can cause problems for the residents. Agree, it is difficult to maintain peace of mind if everyone around you asserts that you live in a “bad apartment”. But many diseases can be the result of constant stress.
