In science fiction books, you can often find descriptions of transparent force fields used as protective walls, doors or domes. Similar technologies have been repeatedly embodied in the cinema. For example, protective fields play an important role in George Lucas's Star Wars universe.

The American company Boeing, apparently, has brought the onset of the future closer and has patented this kind of technology. The patent of the aviation giant is called "Method and System for Shock-Wave Attenuation Using an Electromagnetic Arc".

It is worth noting that the technology proposed by Boeing is designed to protect various equipment from the impact of the shock wave of the explosion and will not save it from direct shots.

The patented system consists of explosion sensors and special generators that ionize the air from the side of the threat, at the moment of impact creating a plasma protective field using laser, electricity and microwaves.

The field generated by the installation differs from the environment in temperature, density and composition, and therefore is able to reflect the shock wave or partially reduce its density, protecting the equipment from destructive effects. The operation of the system is short-lived; in fact, it can be compared to an airbag.

According to the description, this kind of system is planned to be equipped with both military equipment, including tanks, ships and aircraft, and various buildings. The company's plans to introduce force field generators and their testing in combat conditions have not been reported.
