In the central part of Lake Baikal, on its western shore and opposite the widest point, there is Cape Ryty. There are no settlements here. Single boats, without sticking to the shore, pass by. No highways reach this place and there is not even a path along the coast. Locals diligently avoid visiting the cape, calling it a cursed place, but after talking they can tell many ominous and mysterious stories associated with this area. It should be added that the cape is included in the territory of the Baikal-Lensky nature reserve, and in order to disembark here, you need a special permission from the administration of the reserve. The reserved regime of the territory, combined with local prohibitions on visiting the cursed place, did their job - only rare loners dare to go deep into the gorge.

Intrigued by the stories I heard earlier about the phenomena of this cape, I decided to ask the local residents about this in more detail and go deep into the gorge - into the "forbidden territory". I skip the story of the night car drive along the Maloye More coast to the Southern cordon of the reserve, from where we got to Cape Ryty by boat and turn to what I actually managed to learn about the Cape itself.

Abnormal zones

Forbidden areas have been known for a long time in the mythology of peoples of different countries. For Buddhists in Mongolia, this is Agharti, "a forbidden territory in the center of Asia, surrounded by the protective sands of the Gobi." The Tantrists of Tibet have a mysterious and inaccessible Shambhala, hidden from the outside world by a ring of inaccessible mountains. In the Pamirs - the "Pamir" anomalous zone, widely known for its luminous UFOs. In the Urals - the Perm Triangle. On Baikal, a similar forbidden area for people to visit is the sacred Cape Ryty, which is especially revered by both Buryats and Evenks and Tungus.

The sacred significance of the cape for the local population is so great that it is put on a par with the legendary Shaman-rock (Cape Burkhan) on Olkhon, according to ancient legend, was considered a ghostly palace for the most important and eldest of the thirteen sons of the divine Tengriyas, who descended to earth in time immemorial to judge people. It is worth emphasizing that the mythological significance of Cape Ryty for the uninitiated is less known today than, for example, the famous Cape Burkhan on Olkhon, but the territory of Cape Ryty remains forbidden to visit today, which means, according to the belief of the local population, the spirits are still not left this place. Under no pretext, not one of the local residents agrees not only to enter the gorge, but even land in this place on the shore.

With a melancholy feeling of danger awaiting us, late in the evening, we landed on the deserted coast of the cape. The boat, without stopping, hastily set off from the forbidden shore. Before that, the captain, observing the tradition, splashed with alcohol and talked for a long time about the obsession of this place, when with enviable constancy opposite this cape the equipment breaks down for no reason, the devices play and the cars fall through the ice. As it should be, when approaching it was in this place, an aluminum low-pressure fuel tube also burst on our boat, which is unlikely in ordinary life.

I decided to get acquainted personally with the phenomenon of Cape Ryty after hearing a story once from Alexander Burmeister who grew up in these places. In very ancient times, there was a city on this site, the existence of which was not reported in any of the existing sources. This unknown city, like the recently sensationally discovered South Ural Aryan city of Arkaim, captivated the imagination: is it possible that such discoveries are possible on Lake Baikal? In winter, from the ice through binoculars, Alexander showed me a clearly readable artificial stone wall, the existence of which was not known even in the administration of the Baikal-Lensky Reserve.

In addition, a bit of mysticism added photographs of this very place that were subsequently printed, in which an unusual curvature of space was inexplicably discovered, which could not be attributed to defects in film or photographic printing. The camera lens captured an unexplained spatial phenomenon. According to the information I had then, scientists did not know about any ancient settlement in those places, just as I did not have any ufological observations in this area at that time. Everything that I knew fit into scanty lines from the guidebook I had compiled:

According to the "Encyclopedia of Miracles" by Igor Tsarev, there are more than 500 quite powerful geoactive zones in the world - anomalous areas in which an active specific effect of forces of unknown nature on humans is noted. This influence can be both positive (sacred place) and negative (geopathogenic zone). In such zones, the probability of observing glowing ufological objects, encounters with "hominoids" ("snowmen"), cases of inexplicable phenomena in the psyche of people, "prophetic dreams", etc. is the highest. In areas of tectonic crustal faults and in the zone of seismic activity, the influence of various factors on the evolution of the biosphere and on human communities is usually actively manifested. A special term has even been introduced into scientific circulation - telluric radiation from faults, which is just as incomprehensible and controversial for specialists.like the torsion field of the Earth. It is widely believed, although there is no indisputable evidence of this, that such anomalous zones can theoretically have a beneficial effect on the development of human civilization.

In geopathogenic zones, on the contrary, a person, according to doctors' supervision, gets tired faster, gets old and dies. According to modern hypotheses of scientists, the emergence of a geopathogenic zone can be facilitated by the features of the local relief: the proximity and location of underground tectonic faults, the intersection of underground water flows passing at different levels under the bed of dried rivers, the radioactive background of the area, the electric potential of the atmosphere, etc. For example, the well-known anomalous zone in the Crimea on Mount Demirji, according to one of the versions, became such because of endemic plants that emit volatile substances in the morning hours that can cause hallucinations in people.

Observations and experience of people within the framework of several generations, who are spent in the same area for a sufficiently long time, distinguish areas that are dangerous to human health from the surrounding space and places of power. In the places of power, over time, sanctuaries arise and people come there to pray, ask the spirits for help. Geopathogenic zones are becoming cursed places, forbidden territories for people to visit. The further from such territories, the more fantastic details are in the stories about them, with miracles and frightening examples of mysterious diseases and premature deaths of visitors to these places. It is characteristic that this "placebo effect", known to psychologists as self-hypnosis, is especially enhanced at a distance - the further from the object, the more mysterious and enigmatic it seems.

Radiation version

An analysis of numerous eyewitness accounts suggests a conclusion about a possible increased radioactive background in the gorge of the Rita River. Initially, this version was supported by evidence of systematic cases of diseases after visiting these places. One of my acquaintances said that immediately after returning from Cape Rytogo, one of the expedition members fell ill, who alone climbed one of the peaks close to Lake Baikal and for some time just lay on the bare ground. He was ill for about a year. Alexander Burmeister also confirmed that everyone who once permanently lived on Cape Rytom died prematurely and now no one lives in this area. Wooden houses were completely destroyed and overgrown with grass.

There was even a hypothesis that people received a lethal dose of radiation after the discovery of radioactive rock with gold, which they collected and hid in clothes they tried to take out from the cape. And the legends about the curse were specially invented to scare away possible hunters for gold. Geologists have confirmed that in the depths of the gorge of the Rita River there are manifestations of gold and polymetals, but there is no increased radiation that can fatally irradiate people.

Radiometric survey at the cape was carried out by the geological teams of Sosnovgeologiya in the late 1960s of the last century. At that time, there were no portable dosimeters and the instruments required a whole backpack of batteries, which could be the reason for selective measurement of the radioactive background on the route. Instead of batteries, geologists preferred to carry more stew with them and, perhaps, measurements were taken not along the entire route, but selectively. Therefore, a geologist who worked directly on a geological expedition at that time recommended that we walk there with a modern portable dosimeter. So, just in case. And along the way, he spoke about geologists who found radioactive ore on the Baikal ridge in the 1940s and received a lethal dose during the removal of the found samples, so that only one of them could get to Moscow with samples.

Measurement of the background radiation, made by us at the outlets of Cape Ryty, gave jumping readings from 0.25 to 0.35 mrn / hour. This is about two times higher than other adjacent territories of the Baikal coast, but does not exceed the permissible dose of 0.5-0.6 mrn / hour. The data of the measurements carried out by "Sosnovgeologia" are lost somewhere in the archives and are not available for analysis, so the answer about the radiation background remained open for us until the next expedition to this place.

Shamanic traditions

Before disembarking at the sacred cape, we stopped by to consult the Olkhon shaman Valentin Khagdaev, who received the fifth initiation and knew the local ancient shamanic traditions like no other, to consult about the rules of visiting this place. Recalling what he had heard earlier from the old people, he began to tell:

The woody hands were chilled …
The woody hands were chilled …

The woody hands were chilled …

Another legend was learned from V. Trapeznikov, an employee of the Baikal-Lensky Nature Reserve. In his edition, this legend sounds like this:

Cape Ryty

And, in fact, the Rita River's alluvial cone reminds of the once uncontrollable elements that raged here: the steppe dug by mudflows, heaps of huge boulders, invisible underground streams of the Rita River. And as a reminder of the jealous fossilized brothers of thunder and lightning - a continuous series of rains in the gorge. As soon as we went deep into it, the cloudless sky was suddenly covered by thunderclouds, and a terrible downpour with lightning began, and we could clearly see that just a few kilometers away on the shore of Lake Baikal the sun was still shining brightly and not a single drop of rain was falling there.

The shaman's fears that the spirits of the gorge might send us, uninvited guests, a wolf or a bear - fortunately did not come true. But the feeling of anxiety pursued us all the days, as if someone was constantly watching us. At the very end of the walking route, during lunch, we were attacked by a loud buzzing bee the size of a walnut, so we had to jump up from the set boulder table and run away from the bee, which was constantly trying to sit on its back. Its feature was a large body and two long stings, like a dovetail at the end of the body. We have never seen such large bees before. Having already returned to Irkutsk, after questioning the hunting experts, the bee we met was presumably identified with the rare species of the largest earth bees, which do not build nests, but arrange them in the ground. An earth bee jealously guards its territory near the nest and attacks people if they approach it. Her bite is so painful that the bitten one can even fall from the horse from unexpected pain.

In different regions they are called differently: on the Lena - a hornet, among the Tungus - a bear. Such an earth bee is quite rare and in our own way we were lucky to see it in natural conditions, and even in an attack. And the shaman after this story remarked with satisfaction: “It was the spirits that showed themselves. Probably, you did not spread the bones of the sacrifice that way."

Footprints on the ground

The conclusion that there was still an ancient settlement of people in this area can be drawn from the content of the myths, which say that the ruler of northern Baikal, Ukher-noyon, lived on Cape Ryty along with his entourage. This version is supported by the testimony of local residents who heard from their fathers, who in turn learned about this from their parents, that in ancient times there was a settlement of people. The remains of some square foundations, half washed away by mudflows, A. Burmeister saw 15 years ago on the right bank of the Rita River. Geologist A. Bukharov, who explored this gorge in 1967, also mentioned in his report about an incomprehensible square, measuring 50 by 50 meters, laid out on the top of a hill to the left of the Rita River. However, due to various reasons, archaeologists could not get to these places. The question of the possible location of an unknown settlement at Cape Ryty remains open.

One of our tasks was to check this vague information and try to find any traces of human habitation at this place in ancient times. Of greatest interest was a longitudinal and winding fold, clearly readable from the water, on a hill to the left of the Rita River. According to individual eyewitness accounts, it could be of an artificial nature. But the paradox was that despite all the study of the coast of Lake Baikal, no mentions or descriptions of this wall were found in printed works about Lake Baikal. This wall was not known to the workers of the Baikal-Lensky Reserve, on the territory of which it was located.

We landed on the pebbly shore of Cape Ryty from the northern side late in the evening. There is an old winter quarters on the southern side of the cape. Near it there are salt marshes, where wild animals often come out at dawn. But there is no forest and go from there to the wall twice as far. First of all, we began to collect firewood on the beach for a night fire to scare away wild animals. This area is known as the "Coast of Brown Bears". In early June, when the pebbly beaches of Lake Baikal are abundantly dotted with the caddis flies, bears regularly come out of the taiga to feast on them. And in that year, when the taiga was burning strongly, they were observed especially a lot. The captain of the ship warned us that in the previous voyage they counted fifteen bears on one kilometer of the coast and advised us to stay for the night away from the beach. Dragging firewood from the beach to the lodging place,I drew attention to the pyramidal piles of stones, which strongly resembled ancient burials often found in Mongolia next to large kereksurs (burial structures).

Having carefully examined the site with stone tours at the northern end of the cape, we counted fifteen such piles of stones that had been grown into the ground and partially hidden in the grass, artificially folded for a long time. One of them had an additional rectangular layout of stones, which prompted us to think that the site was in fact an ancient burial place. This was the first confirmation of the location of people here in ancient times that we found. The next day, away from the coast, directly on the cape, we found three more high stone tours, located on one straight line across the entire cape. But in our opinion, these stones were laid not so long ago, it was clearly not a shamanic "o". Most likely, they were abandoned by exploration parties working in the area in 1967 and 1968. A wide all-terrain trail from the coast to the gorge from the transportation of parts of the drilling rig, which was installed in the middle of the gorge for exploration of the tin deposit, has also been preserved.

The most noticeable trace of past human activities on the cape is an artificial stone wall, standing along the edge of the forest on a rather steep slope of the hill to the left of the Rita River, immediately after it left the gorge. The wall stretches from northeast to southwest for more than 800 meters. It is striking not only its length, but also the weight of the stones that someone moved when laying the wall. On the inner side of the wall, a barely noticeable flat groove leads to the mountain, along which it is still convenient to ride on horseback. An animal trail runs along it, with traces of the frequent presence of wild animals on it.

The height of the collapsed wall at the present time, in general, does not exceed one meter, but in some places it is slightly higher. The stones stacked on top of each other are separated from the ground and have a gap between them, which clearly indicates their artificial laying. It is quite problematic to put forward hypotheses about the purpose of the wall, since there are no known ancient settlements nearby. The sacred purpose of the wall, as in many Baikal capes, is hardly acceptable, since the wall can be easily bypassed from the north and south. It is most likely that the wall was built for round-up hunting. But for such a hunt and the construction of a permanent wall, somewhere nearby there had to be a fairly large settlement of people. In addition, doubts about the purpose of the wall for hunting are caused by the absence of any historical facts about the use of this method of hunting in Eastern Siberia. In Mongolia, such walls for grandiose round-up hunting were built during the time of Genghis Khan, but in taiga Siberia this method of hunting was not widespread. The clue to the origin of this wall is still waiting for its researchers.

Ufological topic

From surveys of local residents, it became clear that the largest number of so-called unidentified flying objects is observed in the area of Cape Ryty. In these places, bright balls, glowing from the inside and smoothly floating away into the depths of the gorge, as well as mysterious wandering lights were repeatedly recorded. It turned out that the Irkutsk ufologists know about this place and have been regularly traveling to Cape Ryty for several years. They even allegedly have a film with a recording of luminous objects, but they shared this information extremely sparingly and reluctantly. Either they know something and do not want to talk, or there is nothing to talk about.

The most striking case, according to A. Burmeister, happened with a local hunter. He experienced panic and in winter, in light clothes, fled from the winter hut on the cape, when, after the appearance of a luminous UFO, someone invisible, creaking through the snow, entered the hut and began to lift objects into the air one by one. Subsequently, the hunter could not intelligibly give any explanations for his behavior and what was told.

There is a hypothesis about the possible interaction of the earth's energy in the places of faults with solar energy, which is especially clearly manifested in the years of the highest solar activity. According to the observations of ufologists, unusual light phenomena are subject to the law of cyclicity and most regularly occur in the middle of summer, during the period of the highest temperatures and the greatest time of solar radiation. During this period, clear shadows from clouds can be observed in the sky and the probability of observing luminous UFOs is highest.

The plumage fault of the Rita River Gorge, well-expressed in the relief, runs almost perpendicular to the Baikal rift fault. The sediments of Ryty Cape are located at the very edge of the underwater cliff, where each step from the coast increases the depth by a meter. The steepness of the underwater slope here exceeds 45 degrees. Every winter a complex network of cracks appears on the ice from Cape Rytoy - this is one of the most dangerous places on Lake Baikal for ice escorting of cars. The combination of the plumage fault of the Rita River and the deep-water rift Baikal fault may cause anomalies in this place.

From the stories of specialists, it also became known about the gravitational anomaly on the hill, which is on the right along the river and at the exit from the Rita river gorge. Here the specialists of the Sosnovskaya Expedition carried out a special gravity survey of data from a helicopter. The participants in this experiment claim that the readings of the instruments in this place were tens of times higher than usual.

The captains of the Baikal ships also drew attention to the anomalies that could be observed opposite the middle of the cape: incorrect readings of the compass and satellite navigation devices (GPS), distortions during the passage of radio waves. This may be evidence of the presence in the depths of large deposits of minerals that affect the surrounding nature and instrument readings. Geologists, in fact, discovered accumulations of polymetals in the depths of the gorge, but in their opinion these reserves are not enough for the occurrence of such anomalies.

Occasional (once a year) visits to this place by amateur ufologists allow observing the flights of glowing balls and lightning creeping along the ground. Without a comprehensive program for studying the anomalous zone with the help of special instruments for a long and continuous time, there is no way to give an answer to the question of the causes of these unusual phenomena. There is not enough conclusive evidence to support the anomalousness of this place. There are victims and people who have not experienced anything after visiting this area.

According to the authoritative conclusions of specialists, 91% of people in geopathogenic zones have a sharp decrease in the protective functions of the immune system. According to the hypothesis of these specialists, the destructive effect of a geopathogenic zone is manifested after 8 hours of a person's stay in it. A longer stay in the zone leads to diseases that are difficult to diagnose by modern medicine. There is no consensus among scientists about the nature of geopathogenic zones. It is assumed that the surface of the entire Earth is covered with a grid energy structure, like a Curie grid. The adverse impact is amplified in the places of crustal faults and intersections of this energy grid. The energy field of the Earth was also known to the ancient peoples: in Tibet it was known under the name of the deep demons, and in ancient China it was forbidden to build a dwelling without a biolocation check of the area and taking into account the location of nearby hills, underground streams and cavities.

Currently, there is no way to unambiguously explain the phenomenon of Cape Ryty. None of the existing theories - the living biofield of the Earth, aliens from UFOs, the fourth dimension, or telluric radiation from faults - gives an answer to the question of why Cape Ryty was cursed and why the curse is still in effect. Apart from eyewitness accounts of unusual phenomena, there is no real scientific basis. There is only a well-established popular belief that as a result of the curse the place became dangerous to the health of those who come here. But as you know from the proverb, "there is no smoke without fire," and something inexplicable is still happening on the cape, and the nature of this is still not clear.
