Doctors from the United Arab Emirates removed a foreign object from a patient's nose that had been growing in her airway for about 10 years. This is reported by the Daily Mail.
A 15-year-old girl was admitted to the hospital with complaints of discharge from the nostrils and frequent nosebleeds. She had similar symptoms for several years. X-rays and computed tomography showed that there is a large, complex object in the sinus.
The doctors concluded that they were dealing with rhinolith, a foreign body that was overgrown with perennial deposits of mineral salts. Apparently, it got into the girl's respiratory tract many years ago. The patient could not remember exactly how this happened.
The rhinolith was so large that it had to be removed under general anesthesia. As a result, a slime-covered piece of rubber about two centimeters long was removed from the girl's nose. The object gave off a strong unpleasant odor. Immediately after the operation, the patient's condition improved markedly.
In 2018, it was reported about a resident of one of the Vietnamese villages, from whose nose a leech was removed. The doctor assumed that the parasite could crawl into the man's nose when he drank raw water from a natural source.
