It is noted that the first documented case of ghost possession in the United States, known as the Miracle at Watsick, occurred at the home of a certain Roff in Watsick, Illinois. It still remains a real mystery. Thirteen-year-old Lurancy Vennham was then possessed from July 11, 1877 to May 1878.
See the future and die
For the sake of completeness, let's go back a few decades and remember another little girl - Mary Roff. She was born on October 8, 1846 in Warren County, Indiana, and fell into catatonic stupor for the first time at the age of six months. The family was already expecting her death when the girl suddenly woke up. Such attacks continued to happen regularly to her in childhood. According to her, she heard voices that urged her to harm herself and other people.
Gradually the periods of catatonia became longer and longer. In this state, she spoke in different voices and claimed that the dead were settling in her body. Over time, during the attacks, she acquired the ability to clairvoyantly and talked about places she had never been.
Soon, rumors about the girl's strange behavior spread widely throughout the country. The seizures were witnessed by newspaper correspondents, priests and prominent figures who confirmed that the places that Mary describes do exist. Then it turned out that the girl foresees the future and knows everything in detail about people with whom she had never met.
As her mind weakened and her health deteriorated, the girl began to lash out at strangers and her own family. In addition, Mary decided that she needed to get rid of the blood in her body using pins, razors and even leeches. One day her parents found her lying in a pool of blood in her bedroom. Then they realized that they would not be able to save their daughter, and took them to the city of Peoria, to a state mental institution. Soon, on July 5, 1865, Mary Roff finally lost her mind and died in terrible agony at the age of 19.
