As automation continues to permeate more and more aspects of life, some are considering the possibility of AI taking over the presidency. He will be open-minded, problem-solving constructive, and may well be the leader people deserve. The role of the president has always been desirable and controversial, therefore it has traditionally belonged to the people. The word “traditionally” is being used more and more often because so many “traditionally” human-owned spheres are falling under the control of machines and artificial intelligence. One fine day, it is artificial intelligence that may become president.
In 2016, the development team even proposed nominating the Watson supercomputer for this high position. What is it all about?
One of the main reasons that this issue is being discussed at all is balance. Humans are vulnerable to emotion, but AI can make decisions without prejudice, without anger, without resentment, without impulse and without ego (and this is a big problem for powerful people). AI, by its very nature, is able to study all aspects of a problem before drawing conclusions from it. AI will not make quick decisions based on one fact, so this particular machine is better than a human.
In addition, the AI president will not be dependent on finance. AI will not have a financial stake in any business, so it will not prioritize one of the parties. He will only count on what fits best with existing facts. For example, AI will not invest in energy sources, therefore, when making decisions on climate change, it will be guided only by the actual state of affairs.
Obviously, the idea of electing a president in the person of artificial intelligence at first seems impossible. Will we ever evolve to the point where it is technologically possible to entrust the presidency to AI? In theory, yes. AI is developing rapidly, so if a serious project to create the first presidential AI is implemented, it is not difficult to imagine the emergence of this system in the not too distant future.
The biggest challenge facing this becoming a future reality is whether we will allow it to happen on behalf of people. Will the majority support this idea? This is hard to imagine when you consider that the current political landscape appears to be decidedly multipolar.
As automation permeates more and more aspects of our lives, it's not hard to imagine that we might one day wish to elect a president who is devoid of human flaws and is programmed to act according to a set of ideals. The president could be programmed to follow conservative or liberal plans.
Since artificial intelligence systems take on tasks traditionally held by doctors, lawyers, and even poets from the human world, an AI president does not seem so impossible. Today AI is starting to be used to create better AI, so let's imagine a future in which political leaders will be smarter, more honest and, it turns out, less human.
