As well as the bowels of the earth, ice keeps many secrets of the past. In the ice, they find the bodies of well-preserved animals and people who lived several thousand years ago, find ancient weapons and even completely incomprehensible objects, the secret of which has yet to be solved.

In the book by A. Voitsekhovsky "Secrets of the Underworld" one interesting fact is stated. In 1977. A Leningrad scientist from the AARI brought ice samples obtained by drilling over one of the Antarctic sub-ice lakes (the ice layer thickness was 1 km) for research.
When examining ice samples, experts found wood chips, as well as strange golden metal fibers. It is noteworthy that their thickness was about an ordinary human hair, the ends were even, and the length of all fibers was the same - only 2 cm. The fibers were practically not elastic, the metal was deformed when pressed, but did not dissolve in acids.
From these signs it follows that the incomprehensible fibers were of gold. It is possible that they were obtained artificially, but who made them and why? Only once did Antarctica give people a hint, but, unfortunately, they failed to use it.

Finding sailors
So, the year is 1897. The brig of the British fleet "Queen Elizabeth" required repair of a steam boiler, and therefore docked in one of the bays on the Antarctic coast of Queen Maud Land. The renovation promised to take a long time, so several officers from the brig decided to explore the little-studied continent.
Having moved away from the coast for 10 miles, the travelers climbed to a small plateau, where they saw an unusual sight: thawed ice exposed ancient ruins, created either for defense or for the worship of deities. It was not possible to fully survey the structures - the lower part of the ruins was hidden by a thick ice cover.
The next day, the sailors took a camera and photographed their find. Unfortunately, the Anglo-Boer War prevented scientists from starting an expedition to this place planned for 1899. It should be noted that this year, abnormal heat was observed in many parts of the world. Russia, America and even Scotland and East Anglia suffered from drought. Perhaps, the heat helped to free the ruins from the ice captivity.
The story continued in 1938-1939, when Germany suddenly and seriously became interested in a half-forgotten discovery. And then the Nazis sent two expeditions to the Land of Queen Maud, which did a tremendous job. The survey of the territory was carried out on the ground and in the air.
About 600,000 km² were checked and more than half of this area was photographed in detail. There is information that aerial photography has borne positive results, and some of the images clearly show some ancient structures. The explored area was declared the property of the Reich and was named New Swabia.
However, concerned about the activity of the Nazis, America in January 1947. sent a squadron of 13 ships to Antarctica, with the aim of destroying New Swabia. The squadron was commanded by Richard Bird. According to the plan, the military operation was supposed to last at least six months, but without having stayed off the coast of Antarctica for a month, the squadron departed in the opposite direction.
As Bird later wrote in his report, the American flotilla met the enemy beyond its strength in the form of a UFO. The aircraft rose from the water, flew at a very high speed and shot the squadron. Some researchers believe that Byrd was defeated by the Nazis' top-secret weapon, which was created on the basis of electromagnetic engines.
Whether this was actually so is unknown, but the fact remains: Germany stubbornly searched on the icy continent for either traces of an ancient civilization, or contact with this civilization.
UFO in the icy desert
Interest in the ice continent does not fade away in our time. But now, with the help of computer programs like Google Earth, everyone can see the most secret places of Antarkida.
Sometimes interesting finds also happen. For example, a resident of Nizhny Tagil, Valentin Degtyarev, examining satellite images of Antarctica, noticed an object very similar to a fallen UFO.
The photo shows a dark disk-like object at maximum zoom, as if it fell on its edge into the snow. Most likely, the discovery owes its appearance to the surface of the greenhouse effect, which is steadily eating away at the Antarctic ice cover. Presumably, the height of the UFO is 13m, and the width is about 67m.
In addition, the researcher notes the presence of a trail after the fall, the length of which is 142 m. The exact coordinates of the object are known: 80 ° 34'8.44 "S, 30 ° 5'19.27" W, and it is possible that someday the researchers will visit there.
Another UFO-like object was discovered by an American enthusiast. The photo shows part of the disk frozen into the ice shell.
The same observational researcher discovered in another photograph an "underground passage" in the mountain range of the icy continent. True, how deep this tunnel is, and where it leads to, it is still impossible to check.
Perhaps, in the icy desert, a civilization unknown to us is really safely hidden from the eyes, which does not seek to establish contact with representatives of the human race.
But these are only assumptions, but the fact that the once ice continent was inhabited is a fact. According to international agreements, it is prohibited to conduct exploration for minerals here, but from time to time information about the deposits of coal, gold and oil in the icy desert slips in the media.
Geophysical studies have made it possible to find fossilized fragments of tropical flora in Antarctica, which suggests that once flowers and trees grew in the place of ice and snow.
