On September 22, 2014 from the Northern Dvina they caught a fish very unusual for these places, a paca from the piranha family. An unusual catch happened to a fisherman from the village of Privodino, Kotlassky district. The Kotlas Fisheries Inspectorate confirmed that this is the pacu that lives in the waters of the Amazon, and not some other fish.
At the Polar Research Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanography, the exotic catch is explained by the fact that the fish most likely got into the Northern Dvina from the middle zone, where exotic fish were thrown into the rivers.
In length, the pacu can reach more than one hundred centimeters, and weigh up to forty kilograms. Although this species of fish is herbivorous, its representative may well bite a person. Paku can survive in northern rivers only in the summer, so their reproduction is unlikely.
This is not the first unusual catch in the Arkhangelsk region. Previously, such fish were caught in the Vinogradovsky and Verkhnetoemsky regions. Paku was sent to Arkhangelsk for examination.
