According to the head of the Liepaja Regional Tourism Information Bureau, Monte Krafte, the arrived specialists are an international team of researchers studying paranormal phenomena around the world. They are filming footage for the American sci-fi television series Ghost Hunters.
The producers and creators of Ghost Hunters International come from California, the former prison of the Liepaja naval port - the only place in the Baltic states included in their project, Krafte said.
They say that the White Lady is often seen in this prison. According to legend, in 1944, while patrolling Liepaja, the German military detained an innocent young man, who was to have a wedding in two weeks. The young man was sent to prison. The bride of the young man who penetrated there found out that her beloved had been shot. From grief, the girl committed suicide in the cell where he was kept. “Until now, she wanders around the Naval Port prison in a white robe and with a red scythe and does various strange and inexplicable things. Most often, she unscrews light bulbs or damages electrical wiring, charges mobile phones, slams heavy prison cell doors with a loud noise,”said Krafte.
The producers of Ghost Hunters International believe that the TV show produced in the former prison of the Liepaja military port will contribute to the international popularity of this tourist site.
Now in prison, those who wish are offered an excursion, a reality show "Behind Bars", an overnight stay in a cell, a 24-hour program, as well as a game "Escape from the USSR".
